Haute Route Alps | Étape 3
Briançon → Alpe d’Huez
81km | 2,375m
Day 1: restraint.
Day 2: race.
Day 3: empty it.
That was the plan anyway.
The racing went hard early on the Col du Lautaret. Pritch missed the split, paid for trying to stay with it and had to settle back into his own race.
By the top he'd slipped to 11th on GC.
Not ideal.
But there was still a lot of racing left.
Reset on the descent. Then started squeezing.
Col de Sarenne onwards became one long progressive effort. Positions started coming back. A 5:45 gap to 6th at the start of the day was down to around 1:30.
Then Alpe d’Huez.
Nothing left to protect. No numbers to save for tomorrow.
Just empty it.
The result was an all-time 60-minute power PB, on the third day of racing, up the most famous climb of them all.
Étape: 7th
Classement Général: 7th
Three days.
404km.
10,005m of climbing.
Job done.

Haute Route Alps | Étape 2
Cuneo → Col d’Izoard
141km | 3,610m
Day 1 was about restraint.
Day 2 was about racing.
Col d’Agnel: RACE.
Col d’Izoard: RACE → PRESS.
Used the guys around him. Made the right decisions. Didn't chase every move.
Agnel was a big effort, but a controlled one. His second-best 90-minute power ever. On day two of a three-day stage race.
Then reset. Ate. Drank. Got ready to go again.
Izoard was where we wanted to start spending a little more.
Built into the climb. Assessed what was there. Then, with 10–15 minutes to go, the plan disappeared.
He had it. He raced it.
Étape: 6th
Classement Général: 7th
One day left.
Let's see what's left.

Haute Route Alps | Étape 1
Nice → Cuneo
182km | 4,020m
The biggest stage of the race. In exhausting heat.
The brief was restraint.
La Colmiane: CONTROL.
Col de la Lombarde: CONTROL → RACE.
Settled into the race. Found the right wheels. Let others make the early mistakes. Kept the cost under control on the long climbs and spent more only when the race required it.
The goal was to reach Cuneo properly fuelled, still strong and knowing there was another gear available.
Executed.
Étape: 9th
Classement Général: 9th
Two days to go.
Tomorrow we race.
