World Oceans Day 2026 | Celebrating 10 Years of Leading the Way

On 7 June, we marked World Oceans Day with a meaningful celebration at the Club—honouring a decade since we said goodbye to single‑use plastic bottles, bags, and straws. 💙

Since 2016, this commitment has been at the heart of our journey to reduce, reuse, and recycle, and we are proud to continue working towards protecting our oceans together with our members.

Organised by the Sustainability Sub-Committee, this year’s event brought sustainability to life through a range of engaging activities:
♻️ St. James’ Settlement Jockey Club Upcycling Centre showcased bags made from retired sails—sparking interest from members to donate more sails for reuse
🚤 Clearbot introduced their newly designed compact, autonomous electric boat for waste collection in hard‑to‑reach waterways
🎯 The committee hosted a fun recycling game booth for kids, with prizes for the winners
🐋 Members explored the Whale Bone Exhibition at the Chart Room

A Sustainability Tour highlighted key initiatives around the Club, including the artificial coral reef at Wan Chai Basin, Turtle Pool at Waterside, Bluewater water dispensers, ORCA food digester, and solar panels on the Admin Building roof.

The Club has also participated in Clean Regattas since 2016, encouraging sailors to avoid single‑use plastic bottles, bags, and straws during all races, including both local and offshore events.

Ten years on, we remain committed to maintaining a plastic‑free environment and strengthening sustainable practices.

Thank you to all members for your continued support in helping us protect our oceans for future generations.

A classic summer start to Day 1 of the St. James’s Place Sunset Series.

An easterly breeze got the fleet underway, but a sudden storm rolled through, killing the wind and swinging it westerly. Despite a bit of rain and changing conditions, sailors still made the most of the opening race—rewarded with a beautiful sunset and even a double rainbow to close the day.
