💡On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, we successfully completed a training session for employees of the 𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 focused on , an innovative digital platform which supports the City of Athens, Greece, in advancing , , and .
The training marked another important step in strengthening the capacity and skills of municipal staff, enabling them to fully benefit from the platform’s latest capabilities and supporting its effective adoption in everyday municipal operations and planning activities.
The was developed by the Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο - National Technical University of Athens, INZEB, and in collaboration with the Municipality of the City of Athens, with funding from the 𝗜𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗜 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱.
The platform integrates real-time across more than 50 public buildings with tools, enabling smarter energy management and optimised energy consumption.

🌍 How can communities become more resilient in the face of climate crisis?
On the occasion of the 𝗘𝗨 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀, commemorated each year on 15 July, INZEB, in its capacity as the Country Coordinator for the European Climate Pact in Greece, is organising an online event on Friday, 10 July 2026.
The EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis was established to honour the memory of those affected by climate-related disasters and to raise awareness of the growing impacts of the climate crisis on people, communities and ecosystems.
At a time when Europe is experiencing extreme weather events with not only environmental but also social consequences, this event aims to create a space for reflection on the impacts of the climate crisis, while highlighting the importance of , and community .
Through contributions from representatives of local authorities, civil society organisations, humanitarian actors, journalists and Ambassadors, participants will explore lessons learned and personal experiences from recent disasters, focusing on community resilience, disaster preparedness, and response, as well as the role of and .

Yesterday, 2 July 2026, we were very pleased to present the results of our project "𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗲" at the Town Hall of Mouzaki, Karditsa, following the field research conducted in the flood-affected areas of .
🏠 Aiming to understand the real needs, experiences and expectations of affected populations, our research highlighted the loss of home as a central factor creating destabilisation and insecurity, the impact of prolonged temporary housing on , the reshaping of priorities after , and the need for extended mental health support.
🎬 One of the most important moments was the screening of testimonies from residents of the affected areas, shedding light on the true impact that extreme weather events have on people’s daily lives.
Building on the research insights, we presented a set of policy recommendations covering the entire disaster management cycle, from and to and , with the aim of supporting fairer and more effective for protecting
households.

🗣️ The discussion explored the relationship between , and in Greece, exploring how climate impacts intersect with territorial inequalities, housing conditions, energy affordability and institutional capacity, while also reflecting on the challenges of implementing socially inclusive within the complex and evolving Greek policy environment.
The event was organised by INZEB in its capacity as the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗲, and conducted under the Chatham House Rule, enabling an open and confidential exchange of views on climate-related challenges affecting Greek society.

On 29 May 2026, INZEB in its capacity as Country Coordinator in Greece, organised a "𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲, 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗲”, bringing together experts and stakeholders from across the tourism sector, local and regional authorities, public institutions, research organisations and the civil society.
Among the key issues highlighted during the discussion were:
🔹 Climate change is already affecting the operation and development of Greek tourism and is no longer a future threat
🔹 Climate impacts and adaptation capacity vary significantly across island, coastal, urban, and mountainous areas, creating unequal resilience conditions
🔹 Exposure to climate-related risks is closely linked to natural resources management, infrastructure, carrying capacity, and destination spatial planning
🔹 Resilience depends on strategic planning and overall adaptability, not only on managing extreme events
🔹 A stable policy framework is essential for making long-term investment decisions related to climate resilience
🔹 Using scientific knowledge and available data depends largely on the existence of coordination, cooperation, and implementation mechanisms.
🔹 Strengthening resilience while preserving the natural and cultural characteristics of destinations are key to their long-term competitiveness
🔹 The integration of tourism, environmental, spatial planning, and adaptation policies, with the involvement of local communities and economic stakeholders, has emerged as a critical factor for the resilience of Greek tourism
