When did scoring become more difficult than the racing itself?
The 2026 season has given us delayed results, incorrect finish times, trophies awarded to the wrong boats, multiple recalculations, and scoring models that nobody can properly explain.

Different problems, but together they’re starting to form a pattern.
We have more technology, more data and more computing power than ever. Yet a local club race using pen and paper in the 1980s could produce faster and more understandable results than several major events in 2026.
Perhaps the real question isn’t whether the model is mathematically correct.
Can competitors understand the result? Can it be verified and reproduced? Is it published while the sailors are still sitting in the cockpit and actually care? And, most importantly, do we trust it?
We’ve optimized hard for mathematical precision. Transparency, clarity and trust seem to have been lost along the way.
A simpler model that everyone understands probably beats a perfect model that nobody trusts.

Καλή ιστιοπλοϊκή Χρονιά να έχουμε όλοι! Ελπίζω να σας δω όλους σύντομα.
Έπεσε το μάτι μου σε αυτήν την ανακοίνωση και τη διάβασα. Αν κάποιος πιστεύει ότι δεν έχει σχέση με την υπόθεση της X-yachts, το κατανοώ και είναι μια πιθανότητα. Για μένα που δεν ανήκω σε αυτήν την κατηγορία, βρίσκω άκρως ενοχλητική τη διατύπωση.
Σύμφωνα με αυτήν, ο λόγος για το Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM όπως το γνωρίζουμε όλοι) είναι ότι πρέπει να ολοκληρωθούν 2 θεματάκια που έμειναν σε εκκρεμμότητα από τον Νοέμβρη. Το ένα από αυτά είναι η ψήφιση μιας refined proposal για το VPP! Υπήρχαν άλλα πιο σημαντικά θέματα τότε και δεν πρόλαβαν. Από την άλλη αναρωτιέμαι, γιατί refined? Να υποθέσω ότι δεν ήταν αρκετά refined μέχρι στιγμής... και τώρα ήρθε η ώρα να ασχοληθούν;
Το πρόβλημα - που φοβάμαι ότι θα παραμείνει - είναι ότι ο στόλος μας είναι παλιός ενώ το σύστημα επικεντρώνεται στα καινούργια σκάφη. Παρατηρώ πως, ενώ η ναυπηγική εξελίσσεται και κατασκευάζονται πιο γρήγορα σκάφη από τα δικά μας, εμείς κάθε χρόνο θεωρούμαστε γρηγορότεροι. Στην περίπτωση του Assante, σας εγγυώμαι, σοβαρά γρηγορότερο από όσο είναι στην πραγματικότητα.
Αυτό μου μοιάζει περισσότερο Πολιτική παρά Επιστήμη. Έτσι, προσωπικά, βρίσκομαι σε μια αμήχανη θέση που δεν ξέρω αν θέλω να επενδύσω περισσότερο στο σκάφος όταν βλέπω ότι το σύστημα θα με τιμωρεί κάθε φορά ενώ ακολουθώ τους κανόνες του.
Ίσως δε θα έπρεπε να πάρω τοις μετρητοίς το σλόγκαν Equal Chance to Win... άλλωστε πόσο equal chance έχουμε να νικήσουμε ένα TP;;; Έτσι, από πείσμα, θα προσπαθήσω να απαντήσω το ερώτημα το Μάρτιο!!! (Προς Τάκη και Παύλο...με το μαλακό παιδιά, μλκίες γράφω!!!)
