GAMBIA AQUATICS LAUNCHES OFFICIAL ATHLETE DATABASE

Gambia Aquatics is pleased to introduce the Gambia Aquatics Official Athlete Database, a dedicated digital platform for documenting, preserving and showcasing the performances and achievements of Gambian aquatic athletes.

For the first time, athletes, coaches, administrators, researchers, the media and the general public can explore a growing collection of Gambian aquatics records in one place.

The database allows you to explore athlete profiles, official competition results, personal bests, national records, competition histories and achievements. It also includes a dedicated Performance section for analysing how athletes' performances have developed over time and comparing performances across athletes.

The platform currently brings together both historical and recent records, and it will continue to grow as additional results and information are identified and verified.

Congratulations to Aminata (Amie) Barrow!

The Gambian National Olympic Committee (GNOC) proudly congratulates Aminata Barrow on her graduation from prestigious Ivy League school, Brown University (RI, USA), where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Human Biology.

Aminata has made history for The Gambia as the first female swimmer to represent at the Olympic Games. She currently holds Gambian national records in the 50m Freestyle, 50, 100, and 200m Breaststroke events, as well as the 200m Individual Medley.

Her achievements also include reaching the finals at all of her events at the 2024 African Aquatics Championships in
Angola and representing The Gambia at the 2023 and 2025 World Aquatics Championships, proudly flying the Gambian flag on the global stage.

We are equally delighted that Aminata will continue her academic journey this fall at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University as she pursues her dream of becoming a doctor.

We wish Aminata continued success in this exciting new chapter. Your achievements in both sport and academics are an inspiration to young Gambians everywhere.

The Gambia Swimming Team is currently participating in the 17th African Aquatic Swimming Championships 2026 taking place in Oran from 5th – 10th May 2026.

The Gambian delegation is headed by Coach Yankuba Jahateh, who is leading a promising team of athletes to proudly represent the nation on the continental stage.

The team comprises:

🏊‍♀️ Fatou D. Sabally

Fatou D. Sabally will compete in the junior category, while the other athletes will compete at the senior level against some of Africa’s finest swimmers.

This championship provides another important platform for Gambian swimmers to gain international exposure, improve performance, and continue raising the country’s flag high in African aquatics.

Ousman Jobe breaks two National Records at Championnat Région Sud in France

Gambia Aquatics proudly celebrates the latest achievements of national swimmer Ousman Jobe, who set two new national records at the Championnat Région Sud Juniors/Séniors (50m), held from 4 to 6 July 2025 in Martigues, France.

Competing against top-level swimmers in the region, Ousman delivered standout performances on both competition days. On Saturday, 5 July, he set a new national record in the 50m Butterfly, clocking 28.22 seconds and breaking a 12-year-old record. The following day, Sunday, 6 July, he followed up with another national record in the 50m Freestyle, finishing in 26.70 seconds.

These results mark a major milestone in Ousman’s swimming career and reflect the rapid pace of his development on the international scene. Breaking a long-standing national record in the 50m butterfly highlights his growing technical precision and race maturity.

Ousman’s performance in Martigues adds to what has already been a remarkable season, further raising the standard for Gambian swimming and inspiring the next generation of athletes.

Banjul, The Gambia — May 21, 2025

In a landmark event that highlights the strengthening of international sports and cultural relations, the Republic of The Gambia welcomed a high-profile Russian delegation led by the Foundation Adansonia—a Russian institution devoted to sports, education, and international cooperation. The visit was facilitated under the auspices of the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation in The Gambia, headed by Hon. Lamin Manga. The deligation`s arrival was also supported by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation .

The delegation’s visit to Banjul marked a continuation of their West African outreach, following their initial mission in Senegal. A key highlight of their Gambian itinerary was a public sports event, prominently featuring a swimming masterclass conducted by two globally acclaimed Russian athletes:

• Andrey Arbuzov, multiple world and European champion in finswimming

• Alexander Krasnykh, Olympic silver medalist and world and European swimming champion

The event took place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at SBEC International School in Banjul, and was held in collaboration with the Gambia Swimming and Aquatic Sports Association. Andrey Arbuzov read out a welcome address by First Deputy Minister of Sports Odes Baysultanov.

The masterclass brought together between 15 to 30 young Gambian swimmers and members of the local sports community, offering participants a rare opportunity to receive elite-level coaching and witness firsthand the training techniques of world-class athletes.

The initiative was organized in partnership with the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization “Wave after Wave” whose team expressed deep honor in contributing to the development of swimming and sports in The Gambia.

The autonomous non-profit organization Wave after Wave, headed by Andrey Arbuzov, is widely known in Russia for its children's charity sports festivals, which they hold throughout the country.

Ms. Olga Mishedchenko, General Manager of Foundation Adansonia, emphasized the importance of such cultural exchanges.

“We hope this encounter lays the foundation for future cooperation between our organizations and becomes a celebration of international friendship through sport,” said Ms. Olga.

Dmitri Kurakov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to The Gambia, expressed optimism that the event would pave the way for enhanced sports cooperation between the two countries.

The event symbolized a shared commitment to using sports as a bridge between cultures and a tool for youth empowerment. Honorary Consul Hon. Lamin Manga commended the visiting delegation and noted the potential for broader collaboration in sports development, education, and cultural exchange.

The masterclass ended on a high note with participants expressing enthusiasm and gratitude for the training experience. The visit is expected to pave the way for deeper ties between The Gambia and Russian sports institutions in the years ahead.
