🚨NEW: Manchester United strategy this summer transfer window: Stay out of the bidding wars and wait for dominoes to fall.

When Mateus Fernandes (£85M) and Sandro Tonali (£92.5M) joined Spurs early, it looked a bad summer for United, who needed two or three midfielders - early deals set high market rates and raised fears of — £200M spends.

United responded smartly: £48M for Chelsea’s Andrey Santos (mutually beneficial) and activating Tielemans’ £35M Villa release clause. Two quality midfielders for under £100M gives flexibility for a third or to wait for opportunities (e.g. Camavinga if Madrid sign Rodri).

Rashford’s unexpected return from loan also forces a waiting game elsewhere - if he stays, there’s less need for a winger, and it could shift Dorgu between left-back and left wing, affecting defensive recruitment.

"We know for a fact Manchester United are interested in Lewis Hall. The way it’s been expressed to me is that if United found an extra duffle bag after Sir Jim won the lottery, that deal could happen very, very quickly.

The problem is if you look at Newcastle saying it’s £100M for Sandro Tonali or £70M for a 29 year old with two years left on his contract, at least to me that means Lewis Hall could cost £60M+, £70M+."

“I was told, even before England named their World Cup squad, that Lewis Hall would be OPEN to a move to Manchester United. Now that Eddie Howe has left Newcastle, I think that probably makes the transfer more likely rather than less likely.

I know Eddie would certainly have wanted to keep him. But this is the whole issue around Newcastle at the moment. You go back to last summer, it started with Alexander Isak. Now they’ve sold Gordon and Tonali, they’re going to sell Bruno Guimarães, and they may well sell Lewis Hall.

I think Eddie Howe just felt the replacements coming in weren’t of the same calibre to mount any kind of European challenge next season, so he decided it was time to call it a day. I’d be worried if I was a Newcastle fan.”
