We look to build physical health, a positive, healthy mindset and the ability to defend yourself through the art of Brazilian jiu jitsu.

Sarnia Jiu Jitsu - the home of jiu jitsu in Guernsey. We aim to stay true to co-founder, Helio Gracie's principles and keep jiu jitsu as an art for all: women, men, young and old. Our emphasis is on learning, an enjoyable training environment and safety.

There are a lot of misconceptions that to do jiu jitsu you need to be flexible, strong, fit and have experience. You need none of the above. You just need to have fun.

Less intense sparring generally results in quicker skill acquisition and less injuries. We often enjoy the workout and the challenge of greater intensity but realising there is more than one way to do it can be hugely liberating.

Sportive jiu jitsu is subdivided into gi (the pyjama like clothing you may associate with other martial arts) and no gi (shorts, t-shirts, rashguards, etc.). We do both and let people choose what they wear. They are much more similar than they are different. How good our jiu jitsu is overall matters much more.

Battles within battles! Jiu jitsu is a series of small battles that make up the war. One of the first battles in any engagement is one for the grips or holds that are achieved in the standing position. The winner of these can start to dictate the flow of the fight.
We look at each small area of the contest to give you plans and techniques at every stage.

Sparring is fun, technical and thoughtful. There is a time for going to war but most days considered practise is better for most of us.
