A big shout-out to Gethin, who has put in two excellent performances in the centres. He was very unlucky to miss out, but the Man of the Match points were shared today.

I’m running out of ways to describe this player. Week after week, Evan sets the standard with his work rate and commitment, never giving anything less than 100%. It was a great opportunity to play a tour game in Cumbria against a strong Kells ARLFC side.

The hospitality shown by our hosts was greatly appreciated, and the Man of the Match trophy was an amazing gesture.

The opposition players chose their Opposition Man of the Match, and they selected Sam. He scored two tries, put in a huge effort in defence, and produced another great all-round performance.

The boys had a late night on Friday and an early start on Saturday morning. Add in some confusion m over the pitch location after a 1h drive from our accommodation and the soaring heat, all probably reflected in a rather flat warm-up pre match.

A big thanks to Lucas who, despite being on holiday, made the journey over to play this game for us.

Despite how flat the warm-up was, it wasn’t reflected in how the boys started. A superb run by Eddie resulted in the All Blacks racing into a 4-0 lead. Gethin really stood up well in defence, making some excellent one-on-one tackles and controlling his edge.

A break by Sam led to an excellent offload to Jas, who crashed over to extend the lead to 8-0.

The home side then started to play and really tested our edges, bringing the score back to 8-6.

Sam crashed over from close range and added his first conversion to make it 14-6.

The All Blacks then seemed to lose their way a little, and the home team really picked up, turning it into a real contest.

Both sides traded scores, with Jas grabbing his second and Sam scoring an almost carbon copy of his first try in the last few minutes to put us one score behind at 24-30.

Despite a lot of concerted effort and several near moments, we just couldn’t find the extra push needed or create our best opportunities in the heat, and the final score remained 24-30.

𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤….

Well the weather here is amazing, possibly too hot for the poor boys to play rugby in. We all arrived at various times throughout the day yesterday but unsurprisingly all found our way to the bar 😎

Today we head over to Kells RLFC for a match and then back for a dip in the lake.

The coaches decided to change things around a little this week within the back division. It would be fair to say that the two players we switched both had possibly their best games of the season.

The coaches unanimously agreed that Gethin was our Man of the Match. He put in some great defensive efforts and got a bit more ball, which is something we’re keen to see more of from him.

What a lot of supporters may not see are his leadership qualities. Geth was made vice-captain based on his vocal contribution to the team, and he has become a great leader amongst the boys. Wherever we play him, we know he’ll give 100%.

New Earswick All Blacks U14s secured a dramatic last-gasp victory over Heworth in a thrilling contest that went right down to the final play.

The hosts almost struck immediately, with Heworth creating a golden opportunity on their last tackle deep inside the All Blacks' territory. Fortunately for New Earswick, the defence held firm to keep the scores level. It was a slow start from the away side after a convincing win against Heworth in the home fixture, with both teams going end to end in an entertaining opening spell where strong defensive efforts were on display.

New Earswick opened the scoring through Elliott, who crossed for the first try after some good attacking play. The conversion was narrowly missed.

The All Blacks extended their lead when Seth powered over for their second try, although the conversion again went astray.

Heworth responded before the break in fortunate fashion. A kick struck the post, rebounded kindly into their hands, and they were quick to capitalise by touching down. The conversion was successful, leaving New Earswick with a slender 8-6 lead at half-time.

The second half began with Heworth forcing a turnover straight from the kick-off. They shifted the ball from right to left but were denied by outstanding goal-line defence from the All Blacks. However, after earning another set of six, Heworth moved the ball back across the field and eventually found a way over the line. The successful conversion gave the hosts the lead.

New Earswick hit back with arguably the try of the match. Elliott produced a brilliant break down the right-hand side before moving the ball across to the left, where Lewis bulldozed his way through the defence to score. Sam added the conversion to edge the All Blacks back in front.

Heworth refused to go away and replied with another converted try to regain the advantage, setting up a tense finish.

With time almost up, New Earswick produced one final attack. Seth made a powerful surge through the middle of the field before finding Sam, who crossed to level the scores. That left Eddie with the pressure of converting from out wide to win the game. He held his nerve brilliantly, landing the decisive kick to seal a memorable 20-18 victory.

It was a fantastic game of rugby league played in great spirit, with both sides contributing to an exciting contest. Heworth's kicking game was particularly impressive throughout, repeatedly putting New Earswick under pressure, but the All Blacks showed tremendous resilience, determination and character to sn**ch victory at the death.
