FRED HUSBAND TROPHY SEMI FINAL
KIRKBYMOORSIDE 51 v 37 SETTRINGTON
Kirkbymoorside eased their way into the final of the Fred Husband Trophy with a 52-37 victory over Settrington. The match was played on a very good green at Pickering and produced some excellent bowling from both sides. The early ends were very close with the score after 9 ends 18– 15 in Kirkby’s favour. Ends 10 to 15 saw KMS pull away to lead 43 – 28. Despite Settrington coming back and taking the last 3 ends 9 – 8 Kirkby held their nerve to take the tie and move into their 3rd consecutive final on Friday July 31st at Swinton. Many thanks to Pickering for hosting the semi final and to the green keeper for producing an excellent playing surface.
Next match: at home to Hovingham on Friday July 24th 2026 at 6;45 pm.

KIRKBYMOORSIDE 48 (6) v (2) 44 HELMSLEY
Match Day 15 and Kirkbymoorside entertained Helmsley. What a remarkably close match this was. Kirkby pushed ahead in the early ends, but Helmsley came on towards the final ends to make it a bit to close for comfort. Kirkby maintain a 4 point lead at the top of the Batagas League and with 6 matches to go will be looking towards retaining the League title for a third season running. Let’s hope the remaining matches are not as close as this one.

FRIDAY JULY 3RD 2026
KIRKBYMOORSIDE 50 (7) v (1) 35 SWINTON
Match day 14 and Kirkbymoorside moved 6 points clear at the top of the Batagas Triples League with a 7 – 1 victory over Swinton Bowling Club. Considering Swinton were missing some of their big hitters who were away on County duty they gave KMS a very close game on all three rinks with the scores being 17 – 9, 18 – 11 & 15 – 15. Kirkby are on a run of 12 straight wins in the league and will be hoping the run carries on for another few matches and with 7 league games to go the ball is firmly in our court and with the semi final of the Fred Husband Trophy on Friday July 10th against Settrington on the horizon the final weeks of the season could be very interesting.

MONDAY JUNE 29th 2026
KIRKBYMOORSIDE 60 (8) v (0) 35 TERRINGTON
Kirkbymoorside entertained 4th placed Terrington and put in an excellent all round team performance. All three rinks were successful winning 25 – 9, 18 -14 and 17 -12 and an 8 – 0 points score. With Malton also wining 6 – 2 on the night KMS take over at the top of the league with a one point advantage and 8 league matches left not play. Malton have yet to visit Kirkby and this could be the decider for the League title. Kirkby will be hoping to take full advantage from the next two league games which are at home to Swinton (Friday July 3rd) and Helmsley (Monday July 6th) before a semi final in the Fred Husband Trophy against Settrington on Friday July 10th.

Kirkbymoorside maintained top spot as they overcame Wigginton 77-44 to take all 8 points available. HELMSLEY 47 (2) v (6) 58 KIRKBYMOORSIDE
As we reach the mid point in the season Kirkbymoorside is holding a slender one point lead over Malton in the Batagas Ryedale Triples League. In our latest encounter we travelled to Helmsley on a chilly evening but thankfully on an excellent playing surface (thank you to Pete Turnbull). Kirkbymoorside stretched their unbeaten league run to 9 games with a well earned but hard fought 6 – 2 victory. Helmsley’s experienced bowlers kept the home team in touch on two of the rinks, winning one and going down by three shots on the other. The killer blow was struck on the third rink where Kirkby’s all female team were always a long way ahead of the game. It looks like it is gearing up to be an interesting 2nd half to the season. Kirkby move on to round 2 of the Fred Husband Trophy and a home
Tie with Strensall.
Next match: Home to Strensall (Fred Husband Trophy) Friday June 19th at 6:45 pm.

FRIDAY JUNE 12th 2026
SWINTON 47 (3) v (5) 58 KIRKBYMOORSIDE
With Swinton having a number of members away on County duty Kirkby may have expected an easier match but that was not how it turned out. Swinton made Kirkby fight all the way and took one of the rinks by 22-4 and on the last end of another rink secured a share of the points with the penultimate wood. Luckily for Kirkby our 3rd rink of Reg Richmond, Martyn Smith and Chris Terry forged ahead early and maintained their advantage to secure a 35-5 win ensuring Kirkby had a 5-3 ovrrall win. A good win on a green that is always a challenge and maintains our postion in the league table.
