WOW!!!! What a momentus day for the club yesterday!! Despite the result on field, the step forward off it is something we as a club we are very proud of!!
Below, a few words from one of our own, the man who has passionately driven this project forward relentlessly over recent weeks, for no other motive than in his own words “for the love of the club” Huge thank you on behalf of the whole club, Acorn legend, Davey Burns- (Our very own Final Boss!)
Here is what he had to day….
“A DAY I’LL NEVER FORGET”
“Yesterday was honestly one of my proudest days at York Acorn.
To stand there and see our new gym officially opened by a genuine legend of rugby league, Jamie Peacock, was an absolute honour. Jamie, thank you for giving up your time and making the day even more special. It meant a lot to everyone at the club. 👏🏉
There’s been a hell of a lot of work behind the scenes to get us to yesterday, and I need to give some massive wraps to the people who helped make it happen.
💪 BLK BOX – a massive thank you for helping us bring the vision for this gym to life. From the equipment to the flooring and the overall finish, the end result is something we can all be incredibly proud of. A top-class facility that our players can benefit from for years to come.
👏 Daryl North – getting the old equipment looking the part and making sure it blended in perfectly with all the new kit.
👏 Adam Ferry– grafting away cleaning the flooring and getting the place looking absolutely ship-shape.
👏 bedda – getting us sorted with the sponsor wall, which really finished the gym off.
👏 Harry Brom– sorting all the pies for everyone yesterday. A brilliant gesture after already putting his hand in his pocket and sponsoring the gym as well.
Massive appreciation also to Andy Nelson Sports Photography for coming down and capturing this occasion for us!!
And to every single sponsor who have backed us, THANK YOU. 💙💛
You haven’t just sponsored a gym. You’ve invested in the future of York Acorn.
Seeing everyone there yesterday – sponsors, Old Boys, coaches, players, juniors, parents and supporters – made all the hard work worthwhile.
I’ve been part of this club since I was 7 years old, and Acorn has given me friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Rugby league is so much more than just a game, and that’s why days like yesterday mean so much to me.
This gym isn’t for one team or one group of players. It’s here for every Acorn player coming through those doors now and for the generations still to come.
We didn’t quite get the result on the pitch to put the perfect ending on the day, but it certainly wasn’t through a lack of effort from the lads.
There’s still plenty of work to do, both on and off the field, but yesterday showed exactly what this club can achieve when everyone pulls together.
Proud to be Acorn. Proud of everyone who made yesterday happen.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT. 🔵🟡🌰
UP THE CORN!”
