Seven Wins from Seven as Ripon's Women & Girls Enjoy a Perfect Sunday!

It was a memorable day for the women and girls of Ripon Cricket Club, with every team in action returning home unbeaten in a remarkable clean sweep of seven victories from seven matches.

The day began at Beckwithshaw, where our youngest Rebels took part in their second Roses Festival. The progress this group has made was clear for all to see as they produced three outstanding performances to secure victory in all three of their matches.

Confident batting, well-timed shots and excellent communication between the wickets kept the scoreboard moving throughout the morning, and in a fantastic achievement the team completed the festival without losing a single wicket. Their bowling and fielding were equally impressive, with every player demonstrating the hard work they have put in during training. Wickets came in a variety of ways, including some excellent bowling, sharp catches and alert run outs, making it a wonderful display from the youngest Rebels.

Meanwhile, at Ouseburn, the U13 Rebels were playing their final league fixtures of the season and were determined to continue the winning momentum. They did exactly that, recording two victories from two games with another outstanding team performance.

With several younger players stepping up to U13 cricket, there was every reason to expect a challenge, but you would never have known it from the confidence and maturity they showed. Strong individual batting performances were backed up by a disciplined and cohesive bowling attack, ensuring a thoroughly deserved pair of victories to round off an excellent league campaign.

The perfect day was completed in the afternoon as the Ripon Ladies took to the field. Inspired by the success of the younger Rebels, they were determined to finish the weekend in style and did just that with two impressive wins from two matches.

It was another complete team performance, featuring powerful batting throughout the order, accurate and economical bowling, athletic fielding and some outstanding catches. Every player contributed as the Ladies capped off a special Sunday for women and girls' cricket at Ripon Cricket Club.

We certainly did turn Yorkshire yellow at Ripon Cricket Club at Friday junior training. This evening was in support of raising funds and awareness of the incredible work Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The coaches and junior players were adorned in yellow and many donations of fabulous yellow themed cakes were sold in support of the charity. Thanks to the Mayor and Mayoress Ripon City Council for supporting the event and drawing the raffle to win the big yellow hamper. Ripon has such a wonderful community, thanks to all the parents and cricket family for their support 💛💛🏏

Monday evening saw the U15 Raiders travel to Whixley CC for their ninth league match of the season, where a win would take them top of the table.

The Raiders lost the toss and were put into the field first. The bowling attack performed well, with the wickets shared evenly around the majority of the bowlers. Most of these wickets came from catches with Albert taking three and Ethan taking two. Whixley finished their innings on a total of 88/7 from their 20 overs.

Ripon’s opening partnership of Thomas and Ethan proved extremely successful as they were able to chase down Whixley’s total without either of them losing their wicket. Thomas finished on 39 no and Ethan on 33 no, reaching their target of 89 with 8 overs to spare! A great performance from all of the lads with leaves them joint top with Bilton CC, with four games left to play. Well done!

Thursday evening saw the U15 Raiders make the short away journey to Studley Royal CC for their second match of the season against the Studley's U15s.

The first match back in May was a tight first round fixture in the Bob Mellor Cup, in which Ripon came out victorious so it was difficult to know how this match would go.

Ripon won the toss and chose to bat first. The runs started quickly from the bat of Henry and continued to flow well with both Thomas and Oliver retiring at 50 and 51 not out. After their 20 overs, the team finished on 159/4, a reasonable target.

Studley started their reply slowly but steadily but the Ripon bowlers then got into their swing with two wickets for both Ethan and James, and one apiece for Rex and Josh. Studley finished their innings on 102/6 off their 20 overs. Another win for the Raiders, well done lads!!

Monday evening saw the rearranged league match between the U15 Ripon Raiders and U15 Ouseburn.

Ripon lost the toss and were put in to field first on an unpredictable pitch at Kirk Hammerton CC. Despite the efforts of one of the Ouseburn opening batters who managed to find the boundary on a regular basis, Ripon were successful in taking some quick wickets. With 2 dismissals apiece for Rex, Oliver and James and some excellent catching from Maxwell, the Raiders managed to bowl Ouseburn out for a total of 97 runs from 17.2 overs.

Ripon's reply started slowly, with the first 3 wickets falling for a small amount of runs. However after some strong batting from Oliver, ably assisted by Benji, the Raiders managed to steady their innings, with Maxwell and James seeing things through to reach their target with 4 overs to spare. Ripon ended up with 101/4 off 16.2 overs. This leaves the Raiders in 4th place in the U15s Nidderdale Junior Cricket League, with 4 games left to play. Well done to all!

The U13 Raptors extended their winning run to four matches with two impressive home victories in the space of a week, as they approach the end of their main league fixtures.

First up were Pannal Express on a hot evening. Having won the toss and chosen to bat, Pannal posted 75. Ripon bowled and fielded economically throughout, with wickets for Arthur, Thomas and Felix, while the whole bowling attack and fielding unit worked hard to restrict the flow of runs.

When the Raptors’ turn to bat arrived, Thomas (retired 37*) and Isaac (29*) produced a dominant opening partnership, allowing Ripon to chase down the target in only a little over six overs.

This Monday evening the Raptors welcomed a well-drilled Beckwithshaw Bucks side. Batting first, Ripon made a quick start, with excellent innings from Isaac (31) and Alex G (retired 37), while valuable contributions from Charlie G, Albert, Charlie R and Felix helped the Raptors post a total of 126.

Beckwithshaw made a brisk start to their reply, but Ripon maintained enough control to restrict them to 106 and secure another victory. Albert claimed two wickets in a tight opening spell, as well as completing a sharp run out, while Isaac, Felix, Charlie R and Evie all contributed wickets.

Well done to the Raptors, and thank you to Pannal and Beckwithshaw for two enjoyable contests!

It’s been an incredible weekend for junior cricket at Ripon Cricket Club. Friday night training continues to thrive with U7-U13 all in full flow supported by our amazing coaches and volunteers.

Saturday the U13 girls headed off to Queen Ethelburga's for a hardball festival. Facing more experienced older teams the girls held their own accurate with their bowling and dynamite in the field. Such a great opportunity for them to continue to develop their game.

Sunday morning saw the first ‘Peter Squires Future Legends’ U7 Festival. What a buzz of excitement from these young players from Studley, Ripon, Pannal and Bilton. Bilton were victorious but engagement and enjoyment were the main objectives. Thanks so much to Gail Squires for handing out trophies, we couldn’t think of a better way to remember our friend Peter who was such a huge supporter of junior cricket and our club.

The U9 were over at Rainton Cricket Club for their annual tournament. A great time was had by all.

Sunday afternoon saw Ripon CC v Jaflong with a large proportion of the Ripon team made up of junior players from the U15 squad. A big shout out to Oliver M who scored his first 💯 which helped lead Ripon to victory. So wonderful to welcome the Jaflong and their families to our cricket family.

Cricket is going from strength to strength in our region with all clubs working together to promote inclusive cricketing opportunities for all
