A terrific days bowling at Northallerton today for the Mixed Triples qualifier. Both semi finals went to an extra end and the final provided some excellent bowling too. Congratulations to our winners, Paul Gale and Gayle & Malcolm Hartley (Thirsk Athletic) who will now go to Finals Weekend after beating Caroline Longden, Paul Laville and Craig Watson from Jack Hatfield. A big thank you to Northallerton for making us so welcome.

Another night of excellent bowling was enjoyed when the ladies pairs semi-finals took place at Dunnington.

Congratulations to Sandie Plant and Judy Abel from Shipton who beat Alison Dalby and Lynne Tattersall of York RB&SC and to Judith Smith and Gayle Hartley from Thirsk who beat Anna Zetterstrom and Shirley Cruickshank of Hutton Rudby. Both winning teams are Leamington bound.

Thanks to David Dearlove for umpiring and Dunnington for hosting the event.

Today is the funeral of Alwyn Baron of Nafferton and Driffield Rec bowling clubs also Yorkshire Patrons. An outstanding bowling career as player, coach and supporter of bowling in Yorkshire and beyond. Bowls England Order of Merit recognised these achievements in 2014. We are thinking of his family and friends today.

Inclement Weather Guidance for Bowls England - Bowls England 23/06/2026

It's going to be a really hot few days out on the green. Bowls England have issued this guidance:

- Hydration is Key: Ensure you stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Please avoid dehydrating beverages such as alcohol and caffeinated drinks.

- Seek Shade and Protect Yourself: Whenever possible, remain in the shade. Try to avoid strenuous physical exertion during the hottest parts of the day. Always remember to wear a hat and apply sun cream.

- Consider rescheduling the time of matches to avoid the middle of the day between 11am-3pm and/or reducing the number of ends played (subject to mutual agreement of both parties)

A very good days bowling at Redcar Borough Park saw the Over 65 Pairs North Qualifier take place. Excellent hospitality shown by our generous hosts as always and the green bowled very well.

In the end we have 4 qualifiers for the County Quarter Finals next Tuesday at Thirsk; M Hartley (Thirsk), J Coleman (Northallerton), S Davison (Northallerton) and J Barrett (Mulgrave).

We enjoyed a superb evening of bowls at Dunnington for the Fours semi-finals.

Swinton secured their place in the final with a victory over Thirsk, while Northallerton booked the second spot after an absolute thriller against Bishop Monkton. That match went right down to the wire, with Northallerton finally clinching the win on an extra end just as the daylight rapidly faded!

Because this competition carries two qualification places, both Swinton and Northallerton have earned their spot at the National Finals in Royal Leamington Spa. They will also face each other in our own County Final later this season.

Our thanks go to umpire David Dearlove, and to Dunnington for hosting.

Congratulations and best of luck to both teams! 👏

A fantastic turnout of 31 talented players took to the green at West Bank Park for the ladies 4-Wood Singles competition. The competition was fierce but friendly, and after some incredible displays of skill, we have officially played down to our final eight. Well done to: Sue Entwistle, Melanie Wilkes, Caroline Longden, Vanessa Jameson, Sue Allen, Cressida Fordy, Sally Scott and Mary Kenworthy.

The quarter-finals will take place on July 4th, hosted once again at West Bank Park.

Thank you to all the ladies who came along to play, and to everyone who helped out by marking. Our thanks also go to West Bank Park for the use of the greens and for providing the refreshments.

We look forward to the next round in July.
