Sutton Upon Derwent Lawn Tennis Club Sutton Upon Derwent Lawn Tennis Club is located just outside of York. We host 2 very high-quality natural grass tennis courts and 2 all weather astro courts.

We welcome new members to the club and offer league matches, coaching sessions and social events.

What a fantastic day we had for yesterday's Ridley Open—a tournament made all the more meaningful following the sad passing of our President, Ken Ridley, earlier this year. Ensuring the Ridley legacy lives on, Nick Ridley kindly presented the trophy and joined the competition alongside his son, Rory.

It was wonderful to see every court in full use throughout the day. The tournament culminated in a thrilling final featuring Jono & Rachel against Karen & Daniel, with Jono & Rachel ultimately edging out the victory after some exceptional tennis.

Well played to all those involved.

It’s been a great week of Tournaments. The Howdenshire Cup was played on Monday and victory went to Susan & Nicole.
The ladies’ doubles was played this Saturday and after some fantastic tennis Nicola and Jane are the 2026 champions. Nicola was unstoppable throughout the morning and took the ladies’ singles trophy 🏆 Well done to all the winners and everyone who took part.

We were delighted when Karen Mitchell contacted the club to ask if she could practise on our grass courts ahead of her matches at Wimbledon.

Karen, President of Yorkshire Tennis and Padel, is competing in the British Closed Championships as part of the Senior Masters World Tennis Championships, playing in both the singles and doubles events.

It was a pleasure to welcome Karen to Sutton and play a small part in her preparations. Everyone at the club wishes her every success at Wimbledon—we'll be cheering her on! 🎾🍀
