I’ve not been able to run for 4 weeks, or do anything else other than upper body and physio exercises for 3 weeks. And boy do I bitch about it and make it known! And what it really has solidified for me is how much I get out of exercise, being active and general day to day movement. Without it my energy is lower even though I am doing less, I’m restless but motivation is pretty lacking, I am not sleeping as well, anxiety I have not felt in a long time is rearing it’s ugly head and my mood is lower, my skin is bad, I feel achey and stiff, I’m making poorer food choices (not eating enough, eating poorer quality food), my concentration is worse and it just generally makes life feel sh***er.
Does all that sound familiar? Well, I promise, YOU have the key to changing it. Routine, regular movement, a decent and structured workout programme, something to focus on and/or a goal to aim for, and good quality food to fuel it all. These are all things you have within your control to do. Do it to the best of your ability, do it consistently, and do it long term and you will feel the difference in your day to day life.
Stop seeing looking after yourself as something you HAVE to do, but something you GET to do. It really is a privilege. It really does work.
