Getting messages like this is so special. I really do love my job!
When we first started training together, this lovely lady told me she'd never set foot in a gym. She's a regular now — and as one of my online clients I'm not there to hold her hand - she's doing it on her own. That's a lot of confidence she's built.
A few months ago, getting up off the floor meant two hands and a lot of concentration. In this video, she's doing it with no hands at all — in a public gym, filming it herself because she could hardly believe it either.
"I absolutely never, never thought I could ever do this."
Moments like this show that little steps, that start wherever you need them to start, really do work. I am proud beyond words.

Overhead strength is one of the easiest things to rebuild, once it's trained deliberately rather than left until reaching for something forces the issue.
A few things that help: controlled shoulder mobility work, gradually loaded overhead pressing, and simply practising the reach itself rather than avoiding it.

Just off a webinar and it's got me thinking. I'll share more once I've digested it, but first, something I'm becoming increasingly aware of and interested in - flexibility and mobility.
These words tend to get used interchangeably but they mean different things.
Flexibility is passive. Mobility is active.
Flexibility is reaching a stretched position and holding it there. Mobility is moving into that range under your own control, and moving back out of it just as easily.
Something (among many things) that felt like a lightbulb moment from the webinar:
Mobility without stability is just instability. Just think on that for a moment.
Give a joint a new range it hasn't learned to control yet, and it doesn't feel safe, so it often clamps straight back down.
As I listened to the training I felt pretty good about the fact that we do this here. So yeah, I am tooting my own horn just a little bit! We don't just hold a static stretch for its own sake. We teach our joints a new range, and then we get them strong there. Fantastic to learn new things but equally as good to get it reenforced that what I'm doing is good stuff!

Reaching for the top shelf without a second thought — shoulder mobility and overhead strength are trainable at any age, however long it's been.
For a lot of people that confidence slips gradually: a wobble reaching up once, then asking someone else "while you're up," then not reaching that high again — a small accommodation that quietly becomes permanent.
It's reversible and preventable and comes back with deliberate practice.

Training helps with more than the physical stuff.
We are all carrying so much more than we realise — work, family, just life being a lot some weeks. Movement doesn't fix that, but it really does help: a training session here gives you an hour where the only job is showing up and doing the next rep.
It's an hour away from the hustle and bustle, where you don't need to think or make any decisions. Sometimes we giggle our way through the session, sometimes it's a space to get everything off your chest. Either way, it's a chance to reset before you're back into everything else.
That headspace matters just as much as the physical work, and you leave feeling a bit lighter than when you walked in. Movement is medicine — I really do believe that

Six weeks isn't a magic number. It's a practical one.
That's roughly how long it takes to see change — long enough to build real progress, short enough to catch it early and adjust if something's not working.
Week 1 is never a "light week" here — it's a deliberate one, used to establish where you're actually starting from. By week 6, there's enough to know whether the next block should push harder, change direction, or ease back.
It's why sessions here are sold in blocks, not one at a time — a single session can't do what six weeks can. If that's something you've been thinking about, message here or on WhatsApp (07517 658128) and we can talk about what a block built around you would look like.

The plan is never really the plan.
Someone arrives having slept badly, or aching, or carrying a week that didn't go how they'd hoped — and the session changes. The weights change, the rep range changes, what gets the focus changes.
I don't make a thing of it. At my studio in Worthing, I just adapt it, so whatever kind of day you've had, you still leave feeling like you did something worthwhile.
The same plan can be right one week and wrong the next. That's not a compromise on the session — it's the whole point of it.

Online training doesn't mean a lesser version of a session — it means the session still happens when getting to the studio isn't possible.
"I was unable to attend in person for a few weeks but didn't want to lose momentum. The online sessions were just as rewarding as a face to face meeting and sometimes harder." — Stephanie, trained online for 5 weeks
"You don't need to worry about class etiquette or other people... it's tailored to you. We have adapted equipment in the home ( which is small !) for the sessions and I have never felt under pressure to buy more kit. " — Anne, training online for 18 months
"It's more varied and tougher than I thought it would be — even in a hotel room with barely any equipment, using nothing but a bottle of water as a weight, it still gave me a proper workout." — Emma, training online
If getting to Worthing isn't realistic for you right now — distance, timing, recovery, anything — message here or on WhatsApp (07517 658128) to ask about online sessions.

When the goal is long-term health, progress doesn't always feel obvious and improvements can be hard to spot. You just gradually become someone who moves better, lifts more, and recovers well.
So how do you actually know it's working?
I've added something new here. Every 6 - 12 weeks, everyone I train — in the studio in Worthing or online — gets an update. We look at what's improved, an honest look at anything that isn't moving the way we'd hoped, and what's coming next. I do the tracking, keeping everyone moving forwards and noticing when something needs working on.
It takes a while to put each one together properly, but I think it's worth every minute — it's often the first time someone actually sees how far they've come.
Here's some client feedback from their first updates:
"Thanks for the time and care this took — it made me feel fab. Huge credit to the two of us — yes I do the programme but you design it and make sure I am working it properly, adjusting it as needed and pushing me to be the best I can. Love the teamwork and most of all the friendship. Thank you!"
"That update — I was nearly crying. I genuinely couldn't do this journey without you, you pick up on things I don't. I hadn't even realised how far I've come. You're such a massive part of my support."
"That feedback made me quite tearful — you're such an amazing trainer. I've done things I never thought I would do, and there's much more to come. You quietly motivate me to do more, to go that little bit further."
