๐งฎ One final real-world maths question for August! ๐
It's August 29th at 7:30am and I'm already at 98.1 miles in my 100-mile August challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support! ๐
Just 1.9 miles to go to reach my original targetโฆ
But here's my question:
How far do you think I'll have walked by the end of August? ๐ค
Not just whether I'll make 100 miles โ can you predict my final total? ๐
You could think about:
๐ฃ How far I've walked so far
๐
How many days are left
๐งฎ My average daily walking so far
๐ Whether my walking has changed during the month
๐ง What you've learnt about my motivation from my previous posts!
Or you might have some completely different ideas โ I'd love to hear them!
As usual with real-world maths, there are loads of different ways you could tackle this! ๐
๐ฌ Pop your prediction in the comments โ and I'd love to know how you worked it out too!
๐ I've also got a little something special planned for everyone who joins in with this final challengeโฆ ๐ป
I'll reveal what it is, along with my own maths and reasoning after the end of August! And we'll find out how far I actually walked ๐๐งฎ
And if you've been following along with my 100-mile challenge this month โ thank you! ๐ Your comments, encouragement, shares and support have made it even more fun.
Soโฆ what's your prediction? ๐ค๐งฎ๐ป

You donโt have to figure out the maths stuff alone ๐ป
Whether youโre supporting a child with maths, home educating, returning to maths yourself, or wishing you felt a bit more positive and confidentโฆ
Sometimes it helps to have somewhere to ask questions!
Somewhere where you donโt have to pretend you already know the answer ๐
Somewhere you can say โI really donโt understand this!โ without judgement ๐
Thatโs what Iโm aiming to create with the new MathsPositive adultsโ community ๐
A friendly, neuro-affirming space for maths questions, encouragement, resources, discussion and a bit of Co-mathsing!
Thereโll be a monthly evening Co-mathsing session as part of the ยฃ9/month membership, with a ยฃ29/month option for unlimited Co-mathsing sessions for you or your child ๐
There are limited spaces available while I shape the community and work out what would be most useful for everyone.
And this is where Iโd love your help! ๐
What would you like to see in a MathsPositive community?
What do you find difficult when it comes to maths?
What kind of support would be useful?
What would make you think, โOoh, Iโd like to be part of that!โ? ๐ค
You can comment below, send me a message, or just drop me a ๐ป if youโd like to hear more.
Iโd love for this to become a little corner of the internet where maths feels more comfortable and supported ๐๐ป๐

Some days, youโre just a bit Blue ๐ฑ๐
My summer group classes have finished, which means I should have a bit more breathing spaceโฆ
Except thereโs still admin. And messages (apologies if you're waiting, I'm getting through them as quickly as possible) ๐
And today Iโm not quite feeling 100%.
So I think Iโm taking Blueโs approach and having a slower day, doing things in short bursts.
Sometimes we donโt have the energy to be productive, enthusiastic and โonโ, and I think thatโs okay.
What animal represents your energy today? ๐๐ป

๐ป Maths practice without the pressure!
Looking for a more relaxed way to build maths confidence this term?
My friendly online maths groups are back from 16th September, with a mix of teaching, practice and games. Because practising maths doesn't have to mean sitting quietly doing worksheets! ๐
๐ฒ Practice Clubs โ focused practice with teaching and games
๐ฎ Games Groups โ maths practice through interactive games
๐ Neuro-affirming and anxiety-aware
๐ Flexible, low-pressure approach
๐ฅ Groups of up to 14 learners
There are groups for Mid-KS2, Upper-KS2, KS3 and GCSE.
Book by 31st August to try a session for ยฃ5 (usually ยฃ6.50), or join the full 6-week block for ยฃ30.
Looking for something smaller? Information about my small groups is coming soon ๐ป
If maths has sometimes felt like too much, these groups might be a gentler way in ๐
Send me a message or comment to find out which group might be the best fit ๐

Co-mathsing? ๐ค Whatโs that?
These relaxed, online, interactive maths support sessions offer encouragement, feedback and a little scheduled time to keep us all moving forward with our maths ๐๐ป
When you sign up, Iโll send you a Bitpaper link where you can copy/paste or write any questions you or your child have, or anything youโd like to work on, from KS2 right up to GCSE / Functional Skills.
Then we can work through them together, step by step.
If you already have a Bitpaper from one of my groups, the session can provide some scheduled time to carry on working, knowing Iโm there to offer help and feedback when needed โ๏ธ
For some learners, having a set time and a friendly space to get started can make it much easier to actually get going, especially when maths feels tricky or overwhelming.
I love creating spaces that are safe, supportive, and maybe even a little bit fun! ๐๐
๐ Monday โ 3pm
๐ Wednesday โ 4pm
๐ Thursday โ 2pm
Drop in for as long as you like ๐
A weekly Co-mathsing session is included (but always optional) in my small group bundles ๐
Co-mathsing is also available through my new adultsโ Ko-fi memberships, starting from ยฃ9/month ๐
Iโll share more about the different membership options soon!
Got questions? Feel free to comment or send me a message, I'd love to help! ๐ป

Had a fab time at The School is Lava book launch this afternoon! ๐ Thank you PDA Parenting! ๐๐
Lots of lovely people, some really interesting conversations about EBSA and PDA, and I may have bought slightly too many books! ๐
It was lovely to be part of an event bringing more visibility to emotionally based school avoidance and the experiences of young people and families.
I experienced similar challenges myself as a young person at school, so I have to admit I felt a little emotional at times today ๐ป
And also, I'm here to show off my face paintโฆ ๐๐จ
So sparkly! ๐คฉโจ

I'm nervously excited to be joining some fab people this afternoon for The School is Lava book launch in Hemel Hempstead โ including the book's author, Danielle Jata-Hall ()! ๐๐
It's so important to bring more visibility to emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), and I'm really thrilled to celebrate a book with the potential to help children struggling with school feel more seen and know that they're not alone! ๐
Today's launch is a family-friendly event, so it should be a lovely opportunity for children, families and the adults supporting them to come together, celebrate the book and learn more about EBSA from some fab expert panelists!
And, at the time of writing this post, free tickets are still available via Eventbrite! ๐
And I'm wearing the most incredible odd socks! ๐งฆ๐ More on this later...!
