Parkrun day tomorrow✅

Firstly a big thank you to everyone who has come forward to help us this week.

Ahead of tomorrow's parkrun, here are just a few things to help everything run a little smoother in the morning :-

⭐️⭐️The first time welcome and full briefing will be at 8:50am with Kieron by the bandstand. Martha will be your Run Director in the morning and will be getting things started promptly at 9:00am.

🟣🙋‍♀️🙋If you’re volunteering with us tomorrow, please aim to arrive at the bandstand by 830/835 at the latest if at all possible. If you are down to help with pre-event setup could you meet us around 8.10am at the main gate where you drive in please. All the info will be in the email we’re sending you shortly.

🙋🙋‍♀️If anyone could spare the time at the end of the run we could always do with help packing the kit away please.

🚗 🚙 Just a note on parking for those of you new to East Park or who haven’t been for a while.
FREE PARKING is available inside the park on either side of the main avenue as you enter off Hickman Avenue.

Please be aware though:-
🔒🔒WE LOCK THE MAIN GATES AT 08:50🔒🔒
as the course crosses the only vehicular access. They’re not opened again until the tailwalker has passed for the 3rd time, normally around 9:45 ish. Pedestrian gates to the park will remain open at all times in accordance with general park opening times.

💨🚗 If you want to get off quickly after your run, or it’s full inside the gates, there is plenty of free on-street parking all around the perimeter of the park. Many thanks in advance with this.

🙏 👮PLEASE NOTE:- The council have renewed some of the yellow lines and signage around the perimeter roads of the park, so please check before you park up and get out to run or volunteer with us.

🚽Toilets in the park will be open around 8:00am (green building in the middle of the park)

🐕Please be mindful that anyone taking part with a dog, it must be kept on a short handheld non-extendable lead.
🚫✋Waist harnesses are now NO LONGER PERMITTED🚫✋
Absolutely no exceptions with this one unfortunately.

🫃🤰We know everyone that is a regular at parkrun knows this but…just a friendly reminder that all children under the age of 11 MUST be within arm’s reach of a parent, guardian or allocated adult of the parents choice at all times during the event. Thank you for your understanding with this.

We have two cafe options for post parkrun refueling.

☕Hickmans Cafe, just across the road from the park: https://maps.app.goo.gl/uhCqjPpJeqBMffHW6
They are now open following their refit

☕Reece's Cafe, just 4 mins drive from the park: https://maps.app.goo.gl/KeVhK9Tb2bk1D4hS6?g_st=ipc (Show your barcode at Reece's to get 10% off any meal £5 or more)

And finally….but most importantly….

📱⌚️PLEASE NOTE, we can now accept barcodes on your phone and watch as well as wristbands and printed ones…there really is no excuse now.

Many thanks to Josephine Johnson from Brandon Country Park parkrun for this week’s report

“When your non-parkrun, non-running buddy of 8 years, Vicky, moves to Wolverhampton, joins a running club and gets into parkrun. As an obsessed tourist that never tried to turn her to join the ‘cult’, there is only one thing to do! Attend a local parkrun with her as she has learnt about parkrun alphabet and she wants an E. I chuckled when we bumped into fellow Cassabeteer (6 full parkrun alphabets!!) Brian Walkling and shared breakfast talk at Reece’s about WIs, volunteer alphabets and Compass challenges. All too much for the newbie, but some of you reading this will totally empathise.

Well, what can I say about East Park apart from I totally love it! The First Timers (and main brief) was done by Kieron a professional at working the crowd and achieving his 250th run that day! Amazing delivery and great bants with the locals from West Brom 😊 The only other milestone of the day was Deborah hitting her purple shirt of 25! Well done to both of you. We look forward to seeing you flaunting those new shirts.

There was a staggering 53 tourist, must be a compass or postcode thing (YKIYK lol) and even though only 1 got a shout out, we actually had 7 newbies joining the parkrun family today! WELCOME! We hope to see you next week.

It’s not a race, but I have to say WELL DONE to Sosan, Tom, Bradley, Rob, Jack, Amari, Graham, Lee, Danielle, Natinael, Tylor, Colin and Jayme for your amazing PB! The best project you can ever work on is yourself! Keep them coming.

However, the heroes of the day are the Volunteers! Seriously, YOUR parkrun would not happen if it was not for Abigail WRIGHT, Alison FARR, Alison JONES, Denise CUMMINGS, Helen TINSELL-JONES, Kieron DAWSON, Lee WRIGHT, Lorraine Susan WASSELL, Mark BEECH, Martha CUMMINGS, Michelle MARNEY, Paul NOLAN, Rob CARRINGTON, Roy JONES. Roy PRINCE, Ruth BENZIMRA, Stephen MARSH, Tim ROWE. Vicky ROWE and Warren D'ROZARIO. Please do consider giving up your run credit to support a key volunteer role or sharing the love with a volunteer role that allows you to run too. Trust me the pay is good and you’ll never regret giving back, plus there is a whole different line of merch too, win win right? Just talk to the core team on you next visit or email [email protected] and get involved.

I must end this waffle by saying as a tourist yeah seen it all, but truly!!!!! I loved East Park. Great community atmosphere, great parkrun ethos and call me silly, I loved that the park’s path was a mile loop, it’s the simples that get me.

Until the next one EAST PARK! All the best. Love me x”

2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣We celebrated one of our own this morning, as core team volunteer and the giver of the best parkrun briefing around, Kieron, celebrated his 250th parkrun. This is alongside the 194 times he’s also volunteered here delivering a whopping 187 of our 270 briefings. Thank you for all you do here Kieron, a pleasure to celebrate your 250th run with you and the family.

2️⃣5️⃣ Deborah Grove completed her 25th parkrun.

While not an official milestone (yet!!) shoutout to Richard Smith who completed his 3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣th

Well done all.

Almost a THIRD of our participants were first timers to our event. Great to see all the tourists and people doing their very first event.

Thanks to Martha & Michelle for those

Note:- If it was your first parkrun today and you accidentally took home finish token 63, we could do with it next week please…a good excuse to return😁

Have a great week everyone, same time, same place next Saturday.

Cheers - Tim

Gorgeous morning for parkrun, the parakeets are out and about, you may get to hear them as you run through the wooded area or even spot them if you're lucky
