Duncanrigg 0 - 8 FC Pather
Match report:
We kicked off our league campaign with comfortable victory away from home at K - Park against Duncanrig. A surface and facility that our boys relished.
The game kicked off and it was one way traffic. There was loads of quality football played and the deadlock was broken early doors. A
free kick on the left hand side in line with the 18 yard box was taken by Nixon and was met beautifully by Nathan and his powerful header beat the keeper from 6 yards out 0 - 1.
The next chance came from range as Robbie tried his luck from 22 yards out but the goalkeeper made a top save to tip the ball round the post and out for a corner.
As we continued to probe some neat play between Brian and Nixon saw the latter fouled about 25 yards out. Lee Dixon was first on the scene to stand over the ball, and his left footed curling effort found the top right hand corner giving the keeper no chance 0 - 2, brilliant goal.
Shortly after Dixon was looking threatening again, he recieved the ball out wide from the Ross, and cut inside onto his left foot at his shot rattled the far post and was cleared out of harms way.
For 15 minutes or so we knocked on the door but lost our cutting edge, with a Flurry of half chances and corners leading to not very much.
Our 3rd goal came with about 10 minutes to play in the first half. Duncanrig threatened with a ball into our box from deep, but we defended the situation well and hit them on the counter. A ball up the line to Nathan, where drove into the opposition half beating three men, played a square pass to Robbie where he had an attempt at goal but the shot was blocked, the ball fell straight back to his feet and this time slipped in the skipper, his first touch was on point as he set himself and his sweet strike across goal left the keeper no chance. 0 - 3.
Complacency seemingly kicked in though, as the boys took their foot of the gas and we went into the break 3 nil up.
Stern words from Harry at half time though, such as his standards saw very little complacency in the 2nd half, we came out the traps looking to add to our goal tally.
Some very neat play through the centre of the pitch, Goose played a ball to Nathan as he rolled his man and hit the by line, his hung up cross was just over the head of Robbie and Duncanrig were able to clear there lines.
Soon after we were on the score sheet again.
Nixon found himself on the corner of the box on the left hand side, played a one - two with Ross and his cross found Nathan where headed headed the ball back across the keeper into the top corner. 0 - 4.
Its was starting to look like a rout, and we were hungry for more, paddy found himself in acres of space on the halfway line, he looked up and slipped a through ball to Robbie down the line, he didn't have to looked up, he played the ball back across the box and it was that man again Nathan Fell that was there again to tap the ball over the line for 5 nil and a hat-trick.
Duncanrig seemed dead on there feet, and the 6th goal came on around the 70th minute, some crisp football between Paddy, Ross and Nixon moved the ball across the pitch the Chrissy, the big man rolled the ball out from his feet and curled a sweet cross into the box, and out of all people Daniel Nixon got himself on the end of it and got his well deserved goal. 0 - 6.
5 minutes later, it was goal number 7, paddy recieved the the ball on the left hand side, he cut inside one defender, and slipped past another and got a shot away where he beat the keeper at the near post 0 - 7.
We almost got an 8th, Finny picked up the ball near the halfway line, he turned and slid a through ball to nixon, he then turned back inside the defender and squared the ball to Chrissy who's shot was brilliantly saved onto the bar by the keeper.
A couple of minutes later the 8th did come, and talk about saving the best till last! Reece won a free kick on the right hand side, taken quickly by Murphy to Leon, he moved the ball across the pitch to Goose, he took one touch and struck an absaloute beauty into the far away top corner nearly putting a hole in the net. 0 - 8.
In the remaining minutes, we had another free kick within striking range, this time Daniel Nixon stepped up searching for his 2nd goal, he got his effort up and over the wall, but the keeper got across brilliantly to save the ball onto the under side of the bar.
An emphatic victory on the road today, and our boys were at it. Plenty of work to do though and we wont get carried away on what is sure to be a long hard season.
We move on to next week where we look forward to our first home game. (Details will follow midweek on our page)
M.O.T.M Daniel Nixon, unplayable at times. Special shout to Nathan Fell getting his hat-trick though.
8 goals, clean sheet, 3 points, up the road.
