Hey friends! I just wanted to share an important meeting date happening next Friday at 7pm!
As most of you will know the civic centre was closed on us the year of our first annual showcase, we were cancelled, refunded and shuffled off to the school for our first ever show, and had high hopes to go back to the beautiful stage in our civic centre when the RAAC concrete problem was resolved.
Unfortunately, Shropshire council are now planning to sell the building to developers - our lovely market town will lose its heart and soul, the area for markets, shows, events and the hub of the community will be sold and soon be flats.
Unless we can do something to block their motion to sell.
Next Friday the best thing we can do is to pack out the Public Meeting.
Whitchurch Town Council is hosting an urgent, town-wide public meeting on Friday, 11 September 2026, at 7:00 PM.
It will be held in the only remaining open part of the centre - the Sports Hall on St Maryโs Street.
Shropshire Council officers and local ward councillors will be there to face the public.
Showing up in massive numbers is crucial to prove the town will not go quietly ๐ So please share with your friends and get the word out and come and join us to show Shropshire council we won't let them take our civic centre.
There are other options that we can propose.
The council is trying to rush this through under the banner of a county-wide "financial emergency," but the town has the legal framework via Creative Whitchurch - a new major community group registering as a CIO - to throw a massive wrench in their plans.
If you want like to do your bit to save our civic centre - all you need to do now is vote with your feet, and show your support just by being there - please join us next Friday at 7pm in the market hall to show your support ๐๐ฝ๐ ###x
