100 Days of Movement Challenge - Back to School! πβοΈπ«
It's Day 44 of the challenge and we're slowing things down a little bit this week to get into 'back to school' mode.
This week, we're focusing on our core groups of skills that are key to a child's physical education and talking a little bit about why they matter.
Today's focus is ball handling.
β½ Why are ball handling skills so important for children?
Throwing, catching, rolling and controlling a ball might seem like simple activities, but they help children develop a whole range of important physical skills.
Ball handling skills aren't just for budding footballers. Ball handling activities can help children:
β Develop hand-eye coordination- Learning to track a moving object and respond with the right movement.
π€² Improve control and accuracy- Helping children judge how much force, speed and direction they need.
π§ Build spatial awareness- Understanding where they, the ball and other people are in the space around them.
π Build foundations for other activities- Throwing, catching and controlling objects are fundamental skills used across lots of different sports and games.
π Build confidence in movement- Practising simple ball skills gives children opportunities to experience success and feel more confident joining in.
And ball handling doesnβt have to mean complicated drills! A ball, a little bit of space and a few minutes of practice can go a long way.
Real PE
Unrivalled proven impact for EVERY child
100 Days of Movement Challenge - Back to School! πβοΈπ«
It's Day 43 of the challenge and we're slowing things down a little bit this week to get into 'back to school' mode.
This week, we're focusing on our core groups of skills that are key to a child's physical education and talking a little bit about why they matter.
Today's focus is a one leg balance.
𦩠Why is standing on one leg so important for children?
It might seem like a simple challenge, but balancing on one leg helps children develop some really important physical skills.
Balance activities can help children:
β Build stability and core strength - helping them control and support their body as they move.
π§ Develop body awareness - learning where their body is in space and how to adjust their movements.
β½ Build foundations for other skills - balance plays a part in everything from running and jumping to kicking, climbing and changing direction.
π€Έ Improve coordination and control - encouraging different parts of the body to work together.
π Build confidence in movement - mastering simple skills can give children a real sense of achievement and encourage them to try more.
The continues tomorrow as we get ready for Back To School time! βοΈπ«
