🏆🎾 Wonderful Woodland Finals 🎾🏆
This weekend, 5th and 6th September, saw Woodland’s annual Club Championships Finals Weekend. There was far too much to celebrate for just one post, so we’ll be sharing the joy across the week! 😁
Nine finals over two days in glorious sunshine ☀️ — five Senior and four Veterans’ finals.
💚Saturday
🎾 Mixed Doubles
Katie Ashman & Alex de la Cruz took on Jenny Purcell & Ed Billett in an extremely close match, with Katie and Alex taking the win as reigning champions.
🎾 Ladies’ Doubles
Jenny and Katie were soon back on court as Jenny & Lucy Johannsen competed against Katie & Claire Norvill. An exciting three-setter, with Katie and Claire eventually getting the win once again.
🎾 Men’s Chairman’s Cup
Ben Crump and Tom Powell battled it out in another exciting three-set match, with Ben taking the trophy.
🎾 Veterans’ Mixed Doubles
Frances Ball & Bernie Batt took victory over Carol Burrows & Mike Adams.
🎾 Veterans’ Men’s Doubles
Bernie and Mike were back on court against each other, with 87-year-old Roger Norvill and Mike taking the win against Bernie and Club Chairman Martin Potter — another fantastic match to watch!
💚Sunday
🎾 Ladies’ Singles
Katie won a hard-fought match against Claire to take the title — giving Katie three trophies for the second year running!
🎾 Men’s Doubles
Father and son team Nick & Jonathan Evans faced Ed & Tom in another really close match, which eventually went Ed and Tom’s way.
🎾 Veterans’ Ladies’ Doubles
Another thrilling contest saw Carol Burrows & Frances Ball eventually lose out to Gail Tasker & Sian McDermott.
🎾 President’s Men’s Singles
The final match of the day was a powerful contest, with Ollie Fuller triumphing over Ben Crump to reclaim the trophy after a year’s absence.
A huge well done to all our finalists for two fantastic days of tennis! 👏🎾
