AFC Weston Rhyn produced an excellent performance yesterday as we grabbed our first win in the North East Wales Trophy with a convincing 6β1 victory over Skippy. We started brightly and were rewarded in the 22nd minute when Breeze opened the scoring after capitalising with a looped header after Schraderβs high press forced a mistake at the back. Just ten minutes later, Breeze doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute, with Schrader clipping a pass into the box and providing the assist. The pressure continued, and we were awarded a penalty in the 40th minute after Breeze was fouled inside the box. Garmston stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to make it 3-0. With us firmly in control, Skippy were then awarded a penalty before half time following a challenge by A Hughes which was heavily contested after feeling it was a poor decision. Skippy converted the spot-kick to make it 3β1 going into the break.
We came out strongly after the restart and restored their three goal advantage in the 48th minute after Garmston turned provider and selflessly squared the ball across the box for T Jones, who found the bottom left corner to make it 4β1. Breeze then completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute after some great work from G Jones and Alderson down the left ended with G Jones providing the assist as Weston Rhyn extended their lead to 5β1. The scoring was then completed in the 76th minute when Meredith added a sixth, after G Jonesβs cross found Alderson at the back post, the ball was fired across goal where Meredith applied the instinctive final touch taking the ball into the bottom corner.
A dominant performance saw us run out 6β1 winners, with Breezeβs hat-trick and further goals from Garmston, T Jones and Meredith securing a comfortable victory in the North East Wales Trophy. Credit to skippy who battled well, we return to action on the 3rd of October.
