What’s your plan this summer? Family days out, travelling, exploring somewhere new, or simply relaxing in the sunshine?

Whatever you’re doing, make the most of it. Taking time to recharge is just as important as staying productive.

This month I’ve enjoyed discovering more of the North, including a visit to Alnwick Castle and the Northumberland Coast. Next stop: the Edinburgh Fringe! There’s always somewhere new to explore and something new to learn.

Here’s to making the most of summer! ☀️

Mock results lower than expected? Don’t panic. 💙

Mocks are there to show you what to work on, not to define your final grade. There’s still plenty of time to build confidence, improve exam technique and fill any knowledge gaps before the real exams.

If your child could benefit from some extra GCSE Science support, feel free to send me a message. I’m always happy to chat and see if I can help. 🧪

I’m always on the hunt for new, interactive resources. I’m going to give this one a try and I’ll let you know what I think! 🤞

This newly-published resource examines a range of bodily systems, looking at cellular, heritable, and biochemical processes that enable the body to function: bbc.in/4eRH2XM

For each film, before, during and after activities have been provided.

📱 England’s new school phone law is now in force. What’s your view?

From this week, schools are legally required to have a phone-free school day. Phones and similar smart devices shouldn’t be accessible during lessons, break times or lunchtime, although schools can decide how they enforce the rules.

Personally, I think it’s a positive step, but not a complete solution. Will it make a real difference?

A phone-free school day could mean fewer distractions, better focus, more face-to-face conversations, and less opportunity for cyberbullying during school hours. Giving schools clear legal backing should also make expectations more consistent for staff, students and parents.

That said, I can understand why some parents are concerned. Many like their child to have a phone for travelling to and from school, and sadly there will always be students who try to find ways around the rules.

For me, the bigger challenge starts after the school bell rings. Smartphones themselves aren’t necessarily the problem. It’s the apps, notifications and endless scrolling designed to keep young people engaged for hours. Schools can only do so much. Healthy habits at home are just as important.

No rule is ever perfect, but if this one helps most students learn with fewer distractions and improves the classroom environment, then it’s got to be worthwhile.

💬 What do you think?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Schools are now phone-free as part of a change in the law, but will it work?

✨ A little glimpse into what an online tutoring lesson with me really looks like…

Every lesson is built in real time around the student sitting in front of me. We question, discuss, challenge ideas, annotate, use images, practise exam questions, and adapt as we go.

This student’s learning style thrives on questioning and applying knowledge, so that’s exactly what we do. The result? Engaged learning, deeper understanding, and growing confidence.

I’m not gatekeeping my teaching style or techniques. Every student learns differently, and tutoring should reflect that. Whether your child needs structure, discussion, visual aids, exam practice, or confidence building, tuition can be tailored to them.

GCSE Science doesn’t have to mean memorising endless facts. It can be interactive, personalised, and even enjoyable!

If you’re curious about GCSE Science tutoring, revision strategies, or supporting your child’s learning, follow along or drop me a message, I’m always happy to chat. 💬

Here we go again… ☀️🥵

Take care out there everyone and look out for one another.

With temperatures rising, remember to:
💧 Drink plenty of water
🌳 Take regular rest and shade breaks if you’re outdoors
🧢 Stay out of the midday sun where possible
🧴 Keep cool with a mist spray, wet flannel or fan

Check in on family, friends, neighbours and anyone who may be more vulnerable in the heat.

We’ll get through this heatwave together. Stay safe and stay cool! ☀️

🎉 Huge congratulations to all Year 11 students finishing their GCSEs!

Take a moment to be proud of yourselves. You’ve worked hard, pushed through the stress, revision, mocks, coursework and exams, and you’ve made it to the finish line.

Whatever happens on results day, remember that your GCSEs are just one part of your journey. There are so many exciting opportunities ahead, and your future is still very much in your hands.

For now, enjoy the freedom, get some well-earned rest, spend time with friends and family, and celebrate how far you’ve come.

Well done, Year 11. You’ve earned it. 👏✨

Reposting for those doing AQA physics paper 2 coming up next Monday

Topics include:

Forces
Waves
Magnetism
Electromagnetism
Space (Triple)

❌ DON’T MAKE THESE MISTAKES

1. Don’t forget units
A correct number without a unit can lose marks.

2. Don’t round too early
Keep calculator values until the final answer.

3. Don’t write vague explanations
❌ “The force gets bigger.”
✅ “The resultant force increases, causing greater acceleration.”

4. Don’t confuse scalar and vector quantities
Remember:

* Speed = scalar
* Velocity = vector
* Distance = scalar
* Displacement = vector

5. Don’t ignore the wording
If the question asks for “evidence from the graph”, quote data from the graph.

6. Don’t leave 6-markers unstructured
Use:

* Point
* Evidence
* Explain

7. Don’t forget conservation ideas
AQA love asking about:

* Conservation of energy
* Conservation of momentum

8. Don’t spend too long on one question
If stuck:

* Move on.
* Return later.
