“It’s changed my life forever.”
We’ve known Doug for a long time now, and I absolutely love this little part of his story.
When he first came to us, like a lot of people, he had an idea of what going to the gym was supposed to look like. Go in, pick up some weights, work hard...surely that’s how you get fitter and stronger?
But at the time, that wasn’t necessarily what his body needed.
So we went back to basics.
There was band work, mobility, flexibility, understanding how his body was moving and gradually starting to build strength from there.
Nothing particularly glamorous...and probably not what Doug imagined he’d be doing when he first walked through our doors!
But he trusted the process and, importantly...he gave it time.
Over the months we gradually progressed things, his body got stronger and today he’s playing golf, kite surfing, skiing and doing all the things he loves without the recurring back problems he’d experienced before.
He now describes himself as the fittest he’s ever been in terms of both his strength and wellbeing...body and mind.
And I think there’s something really important in that.
Getting fitter doesn’t always mean training harder. Progress doesn’t always mean doing more.
Sometimes it’s about understanding what your body actually needs, meeting yourself where you’re at and then consistently building from there.
For Doug, that process took months...not weeks. There was no quick fix or magic exercise, just the right things, done consistently and progressed at the right time.
And now he gets to use that fitness doing the things he loves...golf, skiing, kite surfing and plenty more!
That’s what being fit is really about...being able to do more of what you love without limitations.
In Doug's words...Fitter, Stronger....LONGER!
