Wellesbourne U15s Crowned Cotswold Hills Champions
Wellesbourne U15s capped off an unbeaten Cotswold Hills campaign in style, producing a dominant all-round performance to defeat Tanworth and Camp Hill Cricket Club in the final and lift the Cotswold Hills U15 Tournament title.
Bowling first, Wellesbourne were excellent from the outset, applying constant pressure and never allowing the Tanworth innings to develop any momentum.
After the opening wicket fell with the score on nine, Wellesbourne took control. A combination of accurate bowling, sharp catching and excellent ground fielding saw Tanworth lose wickets at regular intervals before eventually being dismissed for just 31 in 16.5 overs.
George returned excellent figures of 3 wickets for just 2 runs from 2 overs. Xavier was equally impressive, conceding only four runs from his three overs, including two maidens, while taking 2 wickets.
Max also picked up 2 wickets for 9 runs, while Seb claimed the opening breakthrough with figures of 1 for 4 from 2 overs.
The bowling effort was backed up by some excellent work in the field. Max held two catches, Tom completed a catch and a stumping behind the wickets, while George and Xavier both contributed to run-outs as Wellesbourne maintained the pressure throughout.
With just 32 required for victory, Wellesbourne made light work of the chase.
Jake was the first wicket to fall after making three, before Harry struck two boundaries in an important 11 from 11 balls to keep the innings moving quickly.
The decisive contribution came from Toby, who produced an explosive unbeaten 18 from only eight deliveries, including two fours and a six. His attacking innings ensured there would be no late drama, with Max alongside him when the winning runs were scored.
Wellesbourne reached 37 for 2 from just 4.2 overs, completing an emphatic eight-wicket victory and sealing the Cotswold Hills U15 title.
It was a superb team performance in the final and the perfect way to round off an unbeaten campaign, with Wellesbourne combining disciplined bowling, energetic fielding and confident batting throughout the competition.
