Leigh Golf Club

On Sunday Leigh Golf Club hosted the first ever Rick Shiels Golf Junior open. It’s was a great event for the club to host. It was played in great spirits with visitors from all over the UK, as well as some of our fantastic junior members.

The day itself had fantastic weather, the club included a BBQ and held the presentation straight after the results were in.

The event has been almost a year in the planning, lots of work from many of our members, but a special thanks to Scott & Nicki Winters, Eica Morgan and our Head pro Sean Blinkhorn.

Also thanks to all the members who helped on the day, from working on the registration desk, ball spotting, managing the car park and our fantastic Lady Captain and Lady President started the competitors off and hosted the presentation.

A great day for the golf club. The entire experience was enjoyed by the players.

Finally, another thanks to member Scott Winters, this was his idea, he’s made all the contact with Rick Shiels team, arranged the timesheet, bought in a fellow PGA certified referee, put all the rules in place for the day and gave up countless hours in achieving all this.

⛳ Another match that went right down to the wire!

Leigh Golf Club edged past Chesterfield Golf Club with a hard-fought 3–2 victory in another fantastic match of the Academia Golf Club Classic.

It was another closely contested fixture, played in excellent spirit throughout.
“Yet again, played in amazing spirit against a lovely bunch of ladies!” 👏

Congratulations to Leigh Golf Club on the win, and a huge thank you to Chesterfield Golf Club for a great match played in such fantastic spirit.

Not long to go until the first Rick Shiels junior open. To commemorate the day, each competitor will be gifted with a bag tag and ball marker, which have been made by Tap-In Prints | Golf Accessories and look fantastic.

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of hosting my Ladies Captain’s Day — and what a wonderful, memorable day it was! 💙⛳️

A huge congratulations to Joanne Naughton, who took home the main prize — very well played! 👏🏆

From a fabulous afternoon tea, to a delicious buffet at the Halfway House, followed by Par-Tee Time and plenty of fun, laughter and dancing, it really was a day to remember! 🥂🎶

A massive thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who helped make the day so incredibly special. You all know who you are, and I truly couldn’t have done it without you. ❤️

I feel incredibly proud and privileged to be your Lady Captain. What a year it’s been, and what wonderful memories we’re making together! 💙

It’s been a pretty good golfing season down at LGC so far, hasn’t it?

Lots of great competitions, lots of great scoring….hopefully lots of handicap improvements.

But there’s still plenty of golf to look forward to. The next 3 Saturdays are all board competitions, one of which is Captains Weekend. We also have the final qualifying chance for those hoping to play in Presidents day. Lady Captains day follows Captains weekend, but should also be another great day (and evening) at the club.

We also have the inaugural Rick Shiels Junior Open in late August.

Lots of things to focus on for the greens team, but I can’t wait to get going. Had a nice bit of rain this morning, by 5:30am we’d had 5mil and by 10am we’d had a further 2.5 mil.

We’re approaching the point where we finalise our plans for the Winter and which project we’re going to tackle first, from October onwards.

But in the mean time, we’ll keep the course playing as best we can.

Loved the season so far. Plenty more big events (to me) to prep for.

Our junior team represented the club in the Junior Victory Trophy yesterday at Haydock Park Golf Club. They really enjoyed their day and came 3rd in the gross team event.

A flawless performance from Leigh Golf Club saw them record a convincing 5–0 victory over Crewe GC in the Academia Golf Club Classic! 💪⛳

Played in fantastic spirit from start to finish, it was an enjoyable day for everyone involved. As the home team put it: "A very friendly match again played in great spirit... solid 5–0 win for Leigh!"
