Two years ago, I lost an absolutely cracking bass right at the side of the dinghy. Ever since, I've wanted another shot at that mark.

Back there today, I had a feeling it was going to happen. I even told Nic and my old man that I was fishing for a bass to gift to my boss and his wife.

First drop. First bait.

Bang. A bass.

It fought hard in the tide, and the whole time I had that horrible feeling history was about to repeat itself and I'd lose another fish at the boat. Thankfully, some top netting by my old man made sure that didn't happen.

A beautiful 72 cm bass on the deck and one promise kept. It made the wait worthwhile.
