Glyn selected a couple of cracking teams for tonight’s game and there was absolutely nothing between the 2 sides….
Reds Killey, Prica, RichC, SteveB, Fez, RichS and Glyn
Whites PaulH, MichaelC, Wattsy, Robbo, Wayne, Joe and TonyC
The first 10 minutes saw both teams looking to gain the advantage …and absolutely none was forthcoming to either side. Both keepers made good saves and the defenders were organised, committed and disciplined.
The next, 10 minutes were exactly the same and it was in fact 28 minutes before the deadlock was broken when Wayne latched on to a loose ball that he knocked home to make it 1-0 to the Whites.
It had been an enthralling and entertaining game with both teams sitting on 2 offences and the second half started in exactly the same manner with Fez and RichS working hard but Wattsy and Robbo were well organised with MichaelC covering ground up and down the pitch. Again Killey and PaulH were in action but they looked safe and assured and distributed well.
It remained 1-0 after 45 minutes when TonyC received the ball and was trapped in the corner but he knocked the ball through the defenders legs and Prica slotted home the equaliser giving Killey no chance to react.
Whites then committed repeat offences and Reds had a chance to get ahead but RichC saw his penalty saved…..
The final 12 minutes saw both teams press for a winner - and both teams were providing advice and guidance to NOD with MichaelC and and Wayne competing with RichS and Prica - that battle ended in a draw as NOD ignored all 4 of them!
A well contested and competitive game ended 1-1.
Good to see both Joe and Tony back and impressing after absences and again top performances from Killey and PaulH in the nets.

Geoff sent a note about todays NCL where he captained the Reds who included PeterI, Glenn, KenJ, Tony Clarke, ColinJ and Cavvy. He writes:
Thanks to all who played today there were a lot of close games and a few decided by only a one goal.
The Reds started against Leeds and had most of the possession and shots with Tony coming the closest when his shot beat the keeper but hit the post. The game finished 0-0
Second game was against Bradford, again we had plenty of shots and possession. Bradford totted up 4 offences and we were awarded a penalty which Tony took but unfortunately missed, another 0-0 draw.
Our 3rd game was against our Purple team who we always have very tight games. True to form this was another draw 0-0.
Next up was a much improved Doncaster team, this was another close game. A slight loss of concentration gave Doncaster a chance of a shot which they scored from. A disappointing 1-0 loss. Unfortunately during the game Tony injured his toe and took no further part in the competition, we hope he recovers soon.
The 5th game was against the eventual winners Harrogate. Always a tough game with Tony Breslin in the side and he scored both goals in a 2-0 win.
Our final game was against last year's winners Leggy Mambo's. A good team effort to finish with resulting in another 0-0 draw.
We finished the day with 4 draws and 2 defeats resulting in a disappointing points tally of 4. Pete didn't have much to do but our downfall was not able to score.
The league starts again on 6th October, I'm sure both teams will continue to give a good account of themselves.
The standard of the teams and in particular the goalies continues to improve it's proved any team can beat any team.

A couple of teams in action in the 7 team NCL cup event at WFC and it was great to see a good few members down watching including George whose son remains is a serious situation at LGI. He had a few hours break from visiting and would certainly have made a contribution to either side but am sure all will join me in sending his son best wishes for a full recovery.
The purples squad included NOD, MickW, Bernard, Lindsay, Jan, Gary and GrahamW in goal and we opended against Doncaster with Sean as referee.
Gary was sub and the team worked hard with Bernard a solid anchor at the back and Donny were frustrated with Lindsay and Jan combing well. Donny got the opener when they got a lucky rebound but we had a chance to equalise with the last kick when we were awarded a penalty for repeat offences but NODs attempt was well saved and it ended 0-1.
We sat out the next game and then met the Reds with Mick as the sub. We produced another resolute performance and thwarted the efforts of the Reds who always looked to get on the front foot. To be fair we didn’t seriously challenge Peter but we defended well Graham pulled off a couple of fine saves with Bernard and Gary providing good cover. A 0-0 draw.
The next game saw us lose 2-1 to Bradford in another tight match - they scored a good goal and we pressed to chase the game with Jan doing well to hold the ball. They added a second before we were awarded a penalty by DavidH that NOD knocked home but it ended as a 2-1 defeat.
We then met Harrogate in a terrific tussle - Jan was in the bench as we expected lots of pressure from TonyBreslin and gang and they certainly created lots of chances and Tony was frustrated by a terrific performance from Graham who must have saved as least 10 efforts. Mick managed to get a shot that tested their keeper but we were relieved and delighted when it ended 0-0.
Our final 2 games saw us lose 1-0 to both Mambos and Titans. The games were similar - we absorbed pressure and looked to play on the break and we had efforts in both games but they scored late winners in both…..!
We ended with 2 draws and 4 defeats which was scant reward for some fine efforts by the entire squad……

A Bank Holiday UT Bonanza today and today's Report even includes a few 'Countdown Conundrums'. 'Eh,yer what'? I hear you say... well...Graham J tells us more as follows:

Looking at today's TV Schedule , it was no surprise to see some of the usual Bank Holiday Hollywood Blockbusters on show. For example, 'Ben- Hur'**...'Gone With The Wind', 'E.T' ...and my own personal favourite, that fast paced, pathos filled,love story, 'Holiday On The Buses'. 🤔 😯.With such a fantastic array of films on offer, it's surprising we got too many at UT today but we did ...with a top turnout of 29! 💪💪💪PS** The little known sequel to Ben-Hur was called 'Ben-Hare', starring Bugs Bunny. Whilst the acting from Bugs isn't quite as good as Charlton Heston, he's a lot funnier, so well worth a watch if you get the chance. 👀😆.
It was John 'Riot' Myatt who sorted the teams/format out - thanks John - and he also took over Kitman duties from 'Norma Wesley' who was absent today. Thanks again John and more about 'Norma' later. 🤔🤔
The winners of today's 4 team tournament was Blues , so well done to them, topping the group with 7 points👍 Mark P starred in goals and 'Lord Toepoke' lead the way with 3 goals. Justin V and Bren H also netted with Andy T unlucky to see a couple of goals disallowed. Dave Burkett and 'Bernie the Bolt' were also instrumental. 👍 👍 ⚽.
Reds were close runners up on 6 points. John D was their leading scorer with 3, the 'Riot' himself netted a couple as did 'Ollie Embryo',playing in the last week of his Summer Holidays before going back to Nursery again 😂. They also had Peter Nolan playing well and making a goalscoring debut. Peter incidently could have sang for 'The Nolan Sisters' back in the day....well, he could had he been a woman...and had he been related to them ...and if he could sing. Other than that ...😂 🤪. The tricky JJ and even trickier Graham Andrews also starred in a strong Reds line up, as did the energetic Kev A until he replaced the retiring Bernie on the Blues team in game 2.
Purples finished third with 3 points. Unusually, Skinny didn't score today though he unselfishly set up all 4 of the Purple Goals, despatch by Tony W together with a 'Corporal Jones' hat trick. Gary L was steady at the back with Ken J and Mick B providing good support. Andre did well too, particularly in goals, saving a penalty v Oranges. 👏👏👏👏.
In 4th place it was Oranges with 1 point. Jim D, Glenn T and 'Danger Marsh' were all on the scoresheet with Steve S making some blinding saves at times. Chris H seemed to have a nose bleed today, venturing further forward than normal and was unlucky not to score. Both Jan T and Steve A held and passed the ball well throughout.
There was reference earlier to someone who often comes down to UT but was missing today called 'Norma Wesley'. This in fact is an anagram of his real name. Can you guess who though? I'll show the answer to this and some more UT Player Connundrums below, in the FB comments section to keep you occupied and if you're fed up of watching those boring... sorry I mean 'classic'...films I mentioned earlier, have a go at these 😉:

Thanks to all who took part in a good session, good football played, albeit a bit quick at times. PLEASE SLOW DOWN...that includes me as well! Thanks to all who Reffed brilliantly today including 'The Riot', JJ and anyone else on Reds plus Phill B, who showed today not only what a Top Referee he is but also what top results can be achieved by using false tan cream 😉 😂. Final thanks as well to those who recorded scores/scorers..best wishes to all and hopefully see you all again on Friday. 👍.

A fine Bank Holiday turnout with 51 plus NOD so we had 4@7 and 4@6 and thanks to JJ and SteveA who swapped sides in the last game to keep the team sizes even.
We had another new attendee in Peter Nolan and it was good to see Jim, Oli and Ollie all down at the session.
Some very strong sides with the Whites in good form with Eamonn and MarkP to the fore while the reds had Justin, MarkR and KevinA all impressing.
Greens had ChrisB, peterN and young Oli while light blues had Jim, Joe and OllieN.
Oranges had Charles, MikeR and Barry while yellows had Jan and KenJ leading the line and JohnA and PaulW working hard.
Blues were well led by Glenn, TonyW and Stan while blacks had RichS, Marks and Golly all playing well and contributing with goals…
Barry was in the goals but defences appeared to be to the fore with Brendan, JJ, SteveA and Andre all having good games.
NCL 70+ games at WFC tomorrow so plenty of football to start September.
Matches kick off at 10:45
