Sunday Development XI Match Report

Vs. Wakefield St Michaels (H)

The Development team welcomed nearby St Michaels to Bragg Lane End yesterday. Having elected to bat first, the Wrens made a composed start with Harry Ellis (Sponsored by Team Sambuca) making 23. Following a flurry of wickets, the Wrens were 99/8 but Alfie Holden Garden Gate Bakery impressed on his way to making 60. He was supported well by Imran Khan who made 29 not out. The Wrens eventually finishing 181/9.
In reply, Joshua Foreman MCS Air Conditioning struck twice early on his way to taking 2-31. He was backed up well by Henry Dennis 2-30 and an impressive spell from Sam Anderson Thornton Jones Solicitors 3-12 put the Wrens on top. Unfortunately the rain came and with play unable to continue, the match was abandoned with St Michaels 105/8. The points shared.

The season for the Development XI has now come to a close with the Wrens likely to finish 3rd in the championship. A big well done to all the youngsters who have played this season with many making their senior cricket debuts, it has been great to see and long may it continue 🏏

1st XI Match Report

Vs. Adwalton (A)

The 1sts travelled to promotion chasing Adwalton yesterday. Bowling first, the Wrens were on the backfoot early as the runs flowed. The introduction of spin helped the Wrens back into the contest. Alfie Holden Garden Gate Bakery standing out with 5-102. He was supported by Harvey Anderson Vantage Toyota Wakefield who took 3-94. Adwalton finishing 347/8.

In reply, the Wrens lost early wickets and the chase was never really on. Sam Anderson Thornton Jones Solicitors made 25 before some late runs from Paul Marshall 28 (Hirst Property Services, Wakefield & the mighty Willow) saw the Wrens finish 138 all out. A loss by 209 runs.
