Debbie King Counselling and Coaching/Neurodiverse Specialist Having lived experience I help untangle the confusion and isolation. Having spent 20 years in a complex relationship, I get it. Helping you finally feel heard.

I am a fully qualified counsellor experienced working with both adults and children and a wide range of life issues including Anger Management, Anxiety and Depression. (including Generalised anxiety disorder and Panic disorder) I am also experienced in working with relationship issues with individuals, couples or families. My approach is Person-centred which means that I am led by my client enabling me to tailor the therapy to the individual clients' requirements. It is an approach which enables the client to work with what suits them and at their own pace. All too often, counselling is thought of as an extreme measure or just for people who are ill. I believe it would benefit many of us to talk in confidence to an exceptionally responsive person about our private concerns. Counselling gives you the chance to engage in enlightening conversation marked by curiosity, respect and kindness. Perhaps you are looking for ways to deepen your relationship, or want to learn more about what kind of parent you are. You could be facing family issues or maybe Separation or Divorce. Maybe you are frustrated by aspects of your working life, and know you could be more productive and fulfilled. Maybe you are facing situations that are new to you. Whatever your interest or concern, counselling can take you on a fascinating and valuable tour of your own psyche. Counselling is carried out in a safe and confidential environment. You will be working with a trained professional who is experienced in dealing with all aspects of peoples’ lives. Experienced to help you with the challenges and opportunities to you face, working with you so that you can identify the best way for you to deal with things.

You don't have to wait until your relationship is in crisis to ask for help💜

Sometimes couples come to counselling because they love each other and want things to work, but something between them isn't working as well as they'd like.

Perhaps conversations keep going wrong.

Maybe life has changed and you're struggling to adjust together.

You may have recently discovered that one or both of you are neurodivergent and want to understand what that means for your relationship.

Or you might simply want to understand each other better before small difficulties become much bigger ones.

✨ Asking for support isn't admitting that your relationship has failed.

It can be a way of investing in it.

I've worked with couples and individuals for over 20 years, with particular experience supporting neurodiverse relationships.

If you feel like your relationship could benefit from some support, send me a message and we can talk about working together💜

When do you feel most like you? 💜

Not who you need to be for work, your family, your partner or anyone else. Just you.

It's an interesting little question to stop and think about, because the answer can tell us a lot about the people, places and things that make us feel happiest and most comfortable in ourselves. ✨

So, let's finish the sentence:

I feel most like myself when __________.

I'll add my answer in the comments too.

What would you put in the blank? 👇

Have you ever finally had the chance to relax… and found that you couldn't?

This is something that can be really confusing after a difficult or toxic relationship.

You may know that you're safe. You may have made changes in your life. Things might actually be going well.

Yet you're still waiting for something to go wrong.

💡 When you've spent a long time on alert, it can take time to adjust to not having to anticipate someone else's mood, reaction or behaviour.

And sometimes one of the strangest parts of recovery is discovering that peace can initially feel unfamiliar too.

It doesn't mean you're doing healing wrong.

With time and the right support, that constant state of alert can begin to ease 💜

If you're navigating life after a difficult relationship and would like support with what comes next, send me a message.

I used to mistake familiar for normal.

That's something I've only really understood by looking back at my own life.

When you've been around certain behaviours for a long time, they don't necessarily stand out as unusual.

Arguments. Anger. Unkindness. Walking on eggshells. Never quite knowing what reaction you're going to get.

You adapt.

And sometimes you become so good at adapting that you don't stop to ask if you should have to.

💡 One of the biggest things I've learnt through my own journey is that what feels familiar isn't automatically healthy.

Our experiences can shape what we tolerate, what we excuse and even what we come to expect from relationships.

Understanding that has helped me make sense of a lot of my own choices, and it's something I now recognise in the work I do with clients too.

💜 You don't have to blame yourself for the patterns you've found yourself in.

But understanding them can help you decide what you want your relationships to look like from here.

If you keep finding yourself in relationships that leave you unhappy, confused or exhausted, counselling can help you explore why those patterns keep repeating and what you want to change.

If this feels familiar, send me a message and we can talk about how I can support you ✨

You've left the relationship. So... what happens now?

Leaving doesn't automatically mean everything suddenly feels okay.

You might have spent so long questioning yourself that making your own decisions feels strange.

Your confidence may have taken a knock.

You might know exactly what you don't want anymore, but have absolutely no idea what you do want.

And this is where coaching can help. 💜

Coaching isn't about me telling you what your new life should look like.

It's about helping you work out what you want it to look like.

We might work on rebuilding your confidence, learning to trust your own judgement again, recognising patterns you don't want to repeat, setting boundaries or simply figuring out who you are now.

My own journey has taught me just how much there can be to rediscover.

✨ There is life after a difficult relationship.

And you don't have to have it all figured out before you start moving forward.

I work online with clients across the world, so if you're ready to start thinking about what comes next, send me a message and we can talk about how coaching could support you.

💚 Green Flag Friday

Someone doesn't have to agree with every boundary you set to respect it.

They might feel disappointed.

They might see things differently.

They might even want to talk about it.

And that's okay.

The green flag is knowing you can express what you need without being made to feel guilty, selfish or unreasonable for having that need in the first place.

✨ Healthy relationships leave room for both people to have boundaries.

You can talk about them, understand where each other is coming from and find ways forward without one person having to give up what matters to them just to keep the peace.

Respect isn't always agreement.

Sometimes it's simply being able to say, "I hear you, and I respect what you need." 💚

Attention and affection aren't red flags.

And I think that's an important distinction to make when we talk about love bombing.

Someone being excited about you, wanting to spend time with you or showing you affection doesn't automatically mean there's something sinister behind it.

The difference often becomes clearer when you look at what happens when you don't match their pace.

💭 Can you say no?

Can you ask for space?

Can you disagree?

Can you have other people and interests in your life without it becoming a problem?

Genuine affection leaves room for you to still be you.

Love bombing can feel wonderful at first, which is precisely why it can be so difficult to recognise.

Don't just look at how someone treats you when everything is going their way.

Notice what happens when you have a boundary too 💜

For years, there were things about my life that simply didn't make sense to me.

Why did I doubt myself so easily?

Why did I struggle to trust what I knew and felt?

Why could somebody tell me something about myself that I was fairly certain wasn't true... and I'd still wonder if perhaps they were right?

As I've gone through my own journey, I've started looking back at those experiences very differently.

❤️ It's been like finding pieces of a jigsaw I didn't even realise I was trying to complete.

There are still moments when I think, "Oh my goodness, maybe I did get it wrong."

But I can recognise that thought now rather than automatically believing it.

And the more I've understood my own relationship patterns, the more things have started to make sense.

For me, healing hasn't been about carrying around a huge amount of baggage from the past.

It's actually felt like putting some of it down.

Understanding myself has given me clarity.

And with clarity, I've been able to make very different choices about what and who I allow into my life now 💜

If you're beginning to recognise patterns in your own life and don't know what to make of them, you don't have to unravel them on your own.
