What to say about Georgie’s darling Twig…

Loyal, beautiful, spirited, a serious chocoholic, baby and micro-pig sitter, epic rat-catcher, womaniser (even after he had the snip) 🐾

While he shared some of those attributes with Georgie, I remember her being pretty traumatised by his tack-room rat kill count and the ferocity he’d throw himself at the door with in an effort to get to a dog on heat! 🐀

Twig had George wrapped round his little paw so she never put him in his car crate and instead let him sit on her lap or the passenger seat. This came back to bite them when she hit a deer while driving home with a Chinese takeaway (G probably won’t thank me for dating this story as pre-Deliveroo) and while she was sorting that out, Twig scoffed a load of the takeaway before promptly throwing up all over the car 🤢

Another favourite memory is Georgie smuggling Twig into Stoke Mandeville hospital to see my after my spinal cord injury by saying he was an accredited assistance dog 😝

When Jack and other small people came along, they and Twig always adored making mischief together 🐵

I’ve never known what to make of this, but the evening before Georgie’s accident she told our mum that Twig was doing her head in by being extra clingy. Mum then saw this for herself as he banged the on door while Georgie was having a shower in mum’s motorhome at Bicton. Was it just a funny five minutes or genuine intuition that something very bad was around the corner for his favourite person? 💜

However, I really think that Georgie’s death kept Twig going for longer than he would have done. The way he rallied for everyone, and especially Jesse, getting the golf balls out and demanding he play with him, was truely remarkable 🥰

I’ll definitely be crushing on my twig tattoo and ho jewellery even more from now on to hold both of this special pair extra close 💜🐾

Have fun up there you two, and try to leave some chocolate for the rest of us! 🍫

‼️We’re delighted to share that after an extensive review and interview process Ollie Thompson Eventing has been selected as the 1st Georgie Campbell Foundation beneficiary, from over 60 entries!

💜 Set up in loving memory of Georgie Campbell to support early-stage event riders by providing what young Georgie would have needed, our inaugural winner will receive bespoke mentoring, training, and bursary support until the end of 2027.

Ollie really impressed our interview panel of Jesse Campbell, Jonelle Price
and Dr Catharine Denning. Here’s what they had to say:

“Ollie demonstrates a lot of the attributes we felt were in line with ‘a young Georgie’; a strong work ethic and real love for his horses and eventing. We think he makes the perfect 1st GCF beneficiary and are excited to see his journey unfold with the Foundation’s support.”

🥇We can’t wait to see what Ollie will go on to achieve, and look forward to supporting him along the way. Please join us in congratulating Ollie and look out for updates as we follow his progress!

➡️ We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who applied and has offered to support the successful candidate. If you weren’t successful this time or feel inspired to apply for the next round, keep your eyes peeled for news of the next application window.
