Skipper Celebratory Selfie - like the Three Lions, SMOB roar back with a victory this weekend, and a well-earned celebration in the Lord Nelson. Playing away to Torquay and Kingskerswell CC, we started well on a devil of a pitch, with Kurt taking his best figures of 5/21, Roy chipping in with a nifty duo, and a highlight direct hit from Sonny.
Saffa dynamism continued with James (36*) and debut Tim (20*) leading a confident reply in chasing 61 in just over 8 overs. Thanks as always to a great game, venue, and a lovely tea- looking forward to hosting you again next season Torquay & Kingskerswell Cricket Club

With the Saffas wrapping up early, to get over in time to watch the SA vs Scotland test 🏉, a few of us headed down to Torre Abbey for the quarter final. Like the Lions, when we’re on fire, we’re dynamite.

Drop us a message if you’re keen to join- share a Saturday like this last one, you won’t be disappointed! 🏏 🔥

Sorry for being so quiet of late - busy part of the season, with some up, some down days in the field.

We took the opportunity tonight for a practice in the beautiful Cockington bowl, which we practically had to ourselves, only the bells of ringers with which to synchronise our cover drives!

Thanks to Skipper Shaun Molyneux , Lee Pascoe - pitch guru - and Martyn Wilson for organising.

Come and see us this Saturday, when we’re away, but not really away, over in Kingskerswell, against Torquay & Kingskerswell Cricket Club.

Have a great weekend, from all of us at SMOB x

Though the result wasn’t SMOB-friendly, we gave it a good shot. Highlights were Rocket Roy, with his best spell of his 10-year tenure with an unplayable spell and 4 wickets; Jack the Jackal, a scavenger in the field; and of course Cockington, who looked stunning as always.

Credit to the missus and number one SMOB cheerleader 🖼️ for a wonderful moment at the ground.

Set the scarifier to stun- it’s game day!

The wicket has been mowed and marked, and if aeroplanes aren’t your thing, and if you want premium cricket without paying the professional price tag, come down to the Cockington Bowl to watch St Marychurch Old Boys take on Babbacombe, 1pm.

Bring a picnic, bring the Pimm’s, bring your poodle: it’s the Battle of the Bowls - who’s got the bigger bowls, the Cockington Bowl or the Babbacombe CC bowl?!

See you there!

Well, we wouldn’t be SMOB if it wasn’t a rollercoaster! From the highs of last week, where SMOB stood for St Marychurch OUTSTANDING batsmen, to this week’s St Marychurch ORNERY batting, this week’s array of honest pics - taken by Committee SMOB lifer, and newly appointed documentarian, Steve Myers - tell the story of the day.

Unfortunately, in tough and wet batting conditions, with the ball skidding on, and - it must be said - some ropey shot selection at times 🙈, we were bowled out for 96. True SMOB spirit was shown in the field, but it was not to be, with Yelverton chasing us down in the drier afternoon. Some honourable mentions for Roy, with a couple of great wickets, and some fiery shots at the end of our innings. Also, to Emily our amazing scorer, and our newest debutant, Rob. The tea and cakes 🍰 by Skipper Molly were epic too. Thanks for those who came down to support- the weather was dim, but the support - as always - shone!

At the end of the day, as is the SMOB way, we met for some forensic match analytics at home base, in Molloy's 🍺 and we go again next week away to Plymouth CC! SMOB for life!

*If you’re interested in joining St Marychurch Old Boys, and playing some cricket at the beautiful Cockington Bowl - or if you’re just looking for Saturday Daycare for your husband - please drop us a DM, and we’d be happy to get back to you with the info! All standards welcome - we’re a good bunch!*

Two celebrations today: the first, a hard fought St Marychurch win today at the beautiful Cockington Bowl, defending a fantastic 183/7, from a spirited Torquay and Kingskerswell batting attack. With a debut of note from Sonny; Martyn; Jack, and some wonderful moments from SMOB veterans, including a blinder of a slip catch from Mark.

The second… well Martyn “Nigella Lawson” Wilson’s tea speaks for itself: home baked cakes and cookies, it was a spread fit for Cockington Court.

A good day for the mighty SMOB and a thank you for all who came down and watched, including the young lads sitting in the fir tree who delivered rousing war cries through our batting innings. 🏏 🌳 Cockington Court Cockington-The home of St Marychurch OB CC
