A big well done to the senior finalists who put on a brilliant show for the spectators with some very closely contested finals!

The quality of play was really excellent and truly highlighted how much the club has grown over recent years! It’s the first year we opted to run two streams of competition- ‘Club’ & ‘Elite’ in order to encourage more adults to enter and give an appropriate level of competition for all!

🎾Chipstead Finals Day🎾

On Sunday we had a fantastic line up of finals at Chipstead Place LTC ranging from 11U all the way through to 45+ adults. It’s the first we decided to run the junior & senior finals on the same day which resulted in a total of 19 umpired finals to be played with players battling it out to become club champion in their respective events!

We’re thrilled to have had a total of 169 entries across all events with older juniors also featuring in many of our senior finals making for some really entertaining match ups!

Congratulations to our junior finalists who all fought brilliantly and showed a superb attitude in front of a good number of spectators who supported on the day.

🎾Division Finals🎾

After topping their respective Kent League Divisions this Summer, our Ladies 1’s, Mixed 1’s & Men’s 2’s all earned a place in their respective division play off finals this weekend, battling out against their equivalent division winners in a bid to earn a shield for the club.

Our Ladies 1’s kicked off the weekend with a 3-1 victory v Margate with Captain Jean & Liz losing out on on the match tie-break in their first match before recovering well to take their second. Meanwhile Alice & Anisha took the win in both rubbers securing the win 3-1 overall and earning a shield for the club! 👏

The Mixed 1’s followed with their home match v Whistable on Sunday. Adam & Sachiko, James & Anisha took a clean sweep 4-0 with some excellent tennis securing the second division final and second shield for the club.

The Men’s 2’s captained by Phil travelled away to Wye for their division final. After some close matches the Chipstead team consisting of Phil, David, Ed & Murari came out on top 4-0 earning a third shield for the club and completing a clean sweep across all 3 division finals!

A big congratulations to all three teams and all of the players who represented them throughout the Summer season to earn promotion and reach the finals. Thank you to Captain’s Jean, Matt & Phil for organising the teams and to Pat for organising the fixtures and balls each week!

We look forward to the Winter season commencing soon! 💪🏻🐍

🎾Kent Championships🎾

A huge well done to everyone who competed in the Kent County Closed tournament held at Bromley Tennis Centre last week. An event which caps off the Summer tournament swing and offers the opportunity for players residing in Kent to compete with the opportunity to be crowned County Champion for the singles and doubles age categories they enter. We had a fantastic entry from the ART program this year ranging from ages 7 to 35+ with a total of 15 of our players from Chipstead Place LTC entering the event.

All competed with an excellent attitude and represented both themselves and our club superbly. It was particularly great to see players contributing to the community we are always looking to create by wearing their purple T-shirts and supporting one another on the match court 👌

Thank you to coaches James & Abi for their commitment to watching and supporting the players, the parents for making a great community and supporting one another’s children in addition to the tournament organisers- Jason, Graham & Siobhan to mention a few who worked tirelessly all week navigating the difficult weather conditions and making a great experience for the players 🙏

🎾Play Your Way to Wimbledon National Finals🎾

After winning the club stage and Kent area finals of the ladies doubles, Sachiko & Abi booked their place in the Play Your Way to Wimbledon National Finals. It was a truly fantastic experience for both who had the once in a lifetime opportunity to play on the prestigious grass courts of the Wimbledon AELTC!

Both performed brilliantly to top their round robin box winning their first two matches in straight sets before setting up a quarter-final against a strong pair. Sachiko & Abi took a close first set before going into a 2nd set tie-break with 3 match point opportunities which they couldn’t quite convert. The tie-break finished 14-12 to the opposition leaving a 3rd set match tie-break which Abi & Sachiko couldn’t take this time, narrowly missing out on the semi-final but fighting hard until the end. Well done to their opponents who performed very well to fight back and make such an entertaining match as well.

It was fantastic to be a part of the event not only for the tennis, but to see how much Sachiko & Abi valued the opportunity along with their families & supporters who had the opportunity to watch & be part of the experience. Including Sachiko’s mum who flew all the way from Japan to come and watch her daughter & even had the chance to hit on the practice area herself with her daughter & grandchildren!

Also really nice to find Sachiko’s daughter Anisha’s name on the board of 18U Girls Doubles National Finals champions along with her partner Alice from last year’s event!

After every fortunate experience I’ve had to support players at this amazing event, I’m always left with the overwhelming feeling of how special it is to watch such a wide variety of players able to take part from juniors to adults, wheelchair & partially sighted tennis and many more with all being treated superbly by the staff & organisers at Wimbledon. In my opinion, by far the best LTA initiative we have, long may it continue!

A big well done to Sachiko & Abi for reaching the quarter-finals and a big thank you for having me be a part of your once in a lifetime experience 🙏🐍🎾

It’s been great to see the ART players competing in various events recently and we’ve appreciated the valuable feedback you’ve sent us fresh from the match court! 👌

A few recent results……

🐍Alice M, Leamington G3 Women’s singles Runner-up, Women’s Doubles Winner with partner Olivia and Women’s doubles winner in the Sutton G3 also with partner Olivia. Congratulations Alice, hard work on the practice court paying off!

🐍Daniel & Ben- Croydon G4 12U boys doubles runners-up, great fighting lads 💪🏻

🐍Daniel- Croydon G4 12U boys singles winner & 3rd in Avenue 12U G4, well done Daniel, keep working hard!

🐍Our Chipstead Mixed 1’s (Matt, Anisha, Sachiko & Adam) took a 4-0 victory away to Bearsted in their final match of the season, finishing top of their division & gaining promotion! The team will also play a division final against Whitstable to be played in September with both teams competing for a shield for their respective club 🛡️

A big well done to all, keep working hard on the practice court and challenging yourselves on the match court 💪🏻🐍

🎾Alice M- ITF J30 Hasselt🎾

A good experience for Alice who competed in the Junior ITF J30 in Hasselt, Belgium last week. A first experience on real clay and an excellent learning opportunity.

Alice won one of her singles box matches and lost two with all 3 going to the match tie-break, this meant Alice narrowly missed out on qualifying to the knock-outs.

She then went on to reach the semi-finals of the doubles with partner Sophie knocking out the 2 seeds on the way before going to a strong pair.

Well done to you Alice for competing hard and giving great quality feedback after each match. We’re looking forward to seeing you back at Chipstead to take lessons learned from the match court to the practice court, ready to go again 💪🏻🎾

A few mentions……

🐍Alice M represented the Kent Women’s County Cup team in Roehampton and put in some great doubles performances to help Kent to a 3rd place finish in Division 2. Well done Alice 👏

🐍Anisha picked up the Runners-Up trophy on the grass in the West Worthing 16U G3 showing lots of variety and vastly improved skills, great job Anisha 👏

🐍Jai finished 3rd in the Croydon 14U G5 at the weekend before finishing Runner-Up in the Purley 14U G5 today aiming to control & use his time between points more effectively. Well done Jai 👏

🐍Leo donned the Chipstead purple in his 11U G5 in Yorkshire and battled well to finish 3rd overall. Great fighting Leo 👏

🐍Daniel won the 12U G3 consolation at avenue, New Malden putting in some determined performances 👏
