Fox Covert VPR

Formed in 2007, VPR are one of the areas longest-running clubs. They have now joined forces with the Fox Covert, one of Teesside's most successful outfits.

The newly-formed Fox Covert VPR will be competing in Division One of the Langbaurgh Sunday League. Formed in 2007 and previously of the Langbaurgh League, the club switched to the Stockton Sunday League in 2014. We proudly compete in the Premier Division and are current holders of the Luke Jobson Memorial Trophy. Honours:

What a difference eight days makes. Not many would’ve gave us a chance when we went in 2-0 down to a Coulby side who walloped us twice last term at the break.

After handing the opposition what is now becoming a customary early opener, it was pretty much even Steven until they struck what could’ve been a hammer blow right before the whistle.

But these Foxy Turkey Chasers are showing they are made of stern stuff and produced a stunning turnaround to claim our first points in the Prem.

Late arrival Wagga made an instant impact off the bench, pinning the defence back for the majority of the second period.

After some heavy pressure, our supersub got us back into it after latching on to a ball over the top, holding off the defender and blasting home.

Momentum was building as chances kept going begging, while the defence and midfield were immense, barely giving the hosts a sniff.

But once debutant Harry Webster came on, the lads stepped it up a notch. The livewire helped win us a penalty with 12 to go, but the Coulby keeper made amends for a clumsy foul with a great save to deny Jamma.

That would’ve been it for most. Still, we had plenty of wind left in our sails and got a deserved equaliser with eight left.

Harry Robinson won the ball to cut out a counter, spotted Wagga on the defender’s shoulder, and slipped him to finish for his second.

Happy to gain a share of the spoils to get us off the mark for the season? No chance.

The Fox smelt blood and struck the deserved and decisive blow with two left on the clock.

Webster blitzed the Coulby full-back down the left, cut inside and pulled the trigger to secure a brilliant victory.

Two wins on the bounce. Never say die 🦃🦊⚽️

Just when things were looking bleak, up step eleven Foxy Turkey Chasers to silence the doubters and deliver a performance for the ages.

Despite being winless this term in the top-flight and only having eight lads available by Friday, you won’t be finding any white flags waving over here in Thornaby.

To a man, the bare XI delivered a fighting performance to show we aren’t going anywhere.

Against a quality side that walloped us three weeks ago, the boys responded to falling behind early with a stirring display.

Makeshift lone striker Jordan Hornby broke the net (genuinely) with a 25-yard rocket to level before firing us ahead with another great finish from outside the box.

Tipsy hit back, making it two apiece, before surviving a penalty call when their keeper clattered Hornby right on the break.

It didn’t matter. Danny Surtees transformed into Morgan Whittaker, cutting in from the right and, ignoring the free Harry Robinson, rolled it past the keeper from 20 yards.

That may not have quite hit the back of the net, but Hornby certainly did. Not willing to share any of the headlines with Surtees, he took full advantage of the keeper’s pass straight to him under pressure from Joe Rodgers to lob in the fourth.

With no reinforcements from the bench, the lads survived some heavy pressure in the final 20 minutes and were fortunate to get away with a handball going unseen.

Bodies in front of everything. Adam Lincoln saving everything coming his way. Brilliant.

With ten left the hosts got their breakthrough to set up a frantic finish. Once more it was backs to the wall but, to a man, the boys were never going to be beaten.

We could have had another when Rodgers was chopped down when clean through but fortunately the ref’s decision to only award a free-kick did not prove costly.

Into the next round and first win of the season. Still plenty of fight left in this club yet 🦊🦃⚽️

The tough start to life in the Prem continued with Sunday’s defeat. Two moments of sloppiness on set-pieces cost us dear either side of Flanagan’s equaliser in the first half.

Hopes mounted after a positive start to the second period until another mistake proved costly and the game was done. A goal each late on for either side but little else to write about.

Looks like a couple of weeks off now before we face Tipsy again in the cup.

For 65 minutes we were in a rollercoaster clash before the reigning champions’ quality shone through to seal it convincingly.

We broke the deadlock, fell behind 1-2 before bouncing back to go 3-2 up but just couldn’t sustain it.

Won’t get many more difficult games than this one. A free weekend before we are back in action ⚽️.

Welcome to life in the Premier League! Left empty-handed after shooting ourselves in the foot during first half ding-dong with a good Priestfields outfit.

Great work from the outstanding Rowbotham teed up Bucuresteanu for a leveller shortly after we’d fallen behind.

An explosive end to the opening period then saw us concede, equalise instantly from kick off as striker Rowbotham grabbed another assist for Graham, only to then gift them the lead again right on the whistle.

Wasn’t much in it after the break as we were left to rue our defensive errors. Tough start ahead of next week’s trip to champions Eston North End.
