🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Yorkshire Veterans Cross Country Championships 💙💛

Today saw runners from across the county descend on Pen*stone Showground for the 2026 Yorkshire Veterans’ Athletics Association Cross Country Championships, hosted by Pen*stone Footpath Runners. With age-group races covering approximately 5K and 10K, it was a proper afternoon of cross-country racing, with Yorkshire’s veteran athletes tackling the course and competing for individual and team honours. A big well done to everyone who pulled on their club vest and took part, and a huge thank you to the organisers, marshals and volunteers who made today’s championships possible! 👏🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

A fantastic performance in the Lake District today as Olivia took on the 2 Valleys Trail, part of the Altra 13 Valleys weekend. Starting and finishing in Keswick, the 21km route packs in around 439m of climbing, heading through the spectacular Glenderaterra Valley before a technical section across the Lonscale Slabs and a fast descent around Latrigg. Olivia produced a brilliant run to finish 3rd 🥉 — a superb result on a challenging Lake District course. Huge congratulations, Olivia! 💙💛🏃‍♀️⛰️

🇩🇪 Berlin Marathon! 🏃‍♂️💙💛

A brilliant day in the German capital for Harrier Duncan Fothergill, who took on the iconic Berlin Marathon today and achieved that magic sub-four-hour finish! Even more special was getting to share the experience with his son and coach Josh, completing 26.2 miles together through the streets of Berlin. A fantastic achievement for Duncan and a memorable father-and-son marathon — huge congratulations from everyone at Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers! 👏💙💛🏅

A great morning of racing at the Sutton Park 10K today, starting and finishing in the picturesque village of Sutton-on-the-Forest. The flat but varied 10km course took runners over a mixture of parkland tracks through Sutton Park and the forest, quiet country roads, farm roads and sections of the former airfield. A lovely local race with plenty of variety underfoot and some fast running along the way! Well done to everyone who took part, and a big thank you to the organisers, marshals and volunteers who gave their time to make today’s event possible. 👏💙💛

Today saw runners take on the Fryup Frazzler, the last race in the Esk Valley Summer Fell Series 2026. Starting and finishing at the Yorkshire Cycle Hub in Fryup Gill, the tough 9.4km route packs in around 475m of ascent, with plenty of steep climbing and fast, testing descents across the surrounding North York Moors. Conditions were bright and dry for much of the day, but a strong westerly wind added an extra challenge out on the exposed fell. Another cracking Esk Valley race in a beautiful part of the Moors — a big thank you to all the organisers and marshals for giving up their time and making the event possible.

Tarmac, Trail and Towpath: BeckBusters 10k Race Report

A glorious late-September morning provided a perfect setting for a strong collective, and individual, showing from the 36 Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers competing in the BeckBusters 10k race. TaSH provided a fifth of all the runners to cross the finish line in Bishop Monkton with 6 Harriers finishing in the top 50. The first female Harrier home was Kirsty Naylor (51:13), closely followed by Helen Ashworth and Laura Pearce, both of whom recorded sub-56-minute times. Gary Dunn took the honours for the men (38:40) with Paul Peacock and Ashley Dodgson recording sub-40 minute times in second and third place. 10 Harriers were placed in the age group competitions with Christine Burn, Ruth Pollard, Gary Dunn and Paul Peacock securing first place in their categories, while Ashley Dodgson, Charles Lamb and Hugh Jenyns achieved second places and Julia Harland, Paul Atkinson, and Rob Burn finished third in their respective categories.

With a route that starts in the picturesque village of Bishop Monkton before heading out into some lovely countryside, the BeckBusters race offers an interesting mix of tarmac, trail and towpath running and is a favourite race for many Harriers. As a first-time runner I really enjoyed the variety of surfaces including the famous watersplash near to the end of the race. BeckBusters is a fundraiser for the Bishop Monkton Primary School and the local community turns out in force to cheer on all the runners and the Race Marshalls are equally encouraging. Tarmac, trail and towpath, sunshine and scenery, and a small, but perfectly formed, crowd cheering you on in the final kilometre – running bliss!
