Kernan Valley Flying Club

A fantastic day in the sun on Saturday for the annual Fly In and BBQ at Mourne Flying Club. Lots of Kernan members flying and driving in to enjoy the day, or help out our friends in Derryogue.

Lots of aircraft on show, with the highlight being the Iolar - a fully restored 1936 de Havilland DH.84 Dragon, which is a replica of the same aircraft which flew Aer Lingus's first flights.

Sunshine, aircraft, and great fun with friends - what flying is all about!

Our visitors from Plaistows (St Albans) fed and watered in Rices Poyntzpass before setting up camp for the night at Kernan. What better way to enjoy the heatwave than a microlighting tour of the UK!

Summer seems to have finally arrived, and with it, some good flying weather (at last). Kernan Flyers are finally stretching their wings, and getting some trips in, showing just how much touring you can do with a microlight. Brendan and Gavin recently made a day trip to Popham, in Hampshire, before returning via Manchester and the Isle of Man. Some shots from their trip including a flight over Diddly Squat Farm Shop.

The Mourne Flying Club and the Nicholson family warmly invite you to join us for our annual Fly-In BBQ on 18th July 2026!
As with previous years, we expect brilliant BBQ food, a vast array of aircraft from Great Britain and Ireland and of course good Mourne Craic and Hospitality!

We have a new instructor in the club!

Congratulations to Garth on passing his flight instructor examination yesterday from everybody at Kernan!

Congratulations to Garth Logan who featured in the latest Microlight Flying magazine. Garth was one of our Bursary applicants and completed his training with Pegasus France recently and conducted his successful FI (r) test with Flylight Airsports only yesterday.

It was also his birthday today - Happy Birthday Garth 9 (we even had a spare cake !) and good luck with your instructor career Kernan Valley Flying Club - Congratulations once again.

We recently held our AGM in the clubhouse - looking back on a busy and successful year for the club, while looking forward to our plans for the incoming year.

We followed it up with a fantastic BBQ, skilfully run by Alistair and Gareth, while Alison looked after an assortment of mouth watering deserts! A great evening, with lots of members enjoying the good weather, good food and good company.
