🔱 TUESDAY NIGHT AT TRIDENT 🔱

Mount work tonight.

Understanding the position first. Pressure, control and staying heavy before chasing the finish.

Then we opened it up into strangles, arm locks and plenty of rounds to put it all together.

Great room. Great energy. Everyone working. 🤙

Control. Pressure. Submission.

BLACK BELT ISN’T THE FINISH LINE. 🔱

It is a responsibility to keep learning.

We are proud to share an important step forward for Trident BJJ.

Our Head Coach, Professor Pat Reeves, 2nd Degree Black Belt, is now actively training and developing his Jiu Jitsu under Professor Lúcio “Lagarto” Rodrigues, 5th Degree Black Belt, as Trident moves forward as an affiliate of Valour.

For us, this is far more than putting another badge on the wall.

It is about lineage. Standards. Accountability. Continuing education. And making sure that as Trident grows, the Jiu Jitsu we pass on to our students continues to grow with it.

Professor Lagarto is one of the most respected Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners and coaches of his generation, a multiple time European Champion and a black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr.

Professor Pat has spent decades on the mats himself, but the mentality remains the same:

Keep learning. Keep refining. Keep moving forward.

That knowledge now flows directly into Trident and into the next generation of students coming through our academies.

Our lineage:

Carlos Gracie Jr

Professor Lúcio “Lagarto” Rodrigues

TRIDENT BJJ 🔱

Rooted in lineage.
Built on strong fundamentals.
Always moving forward.

OUR ACADEMY IS HOME. LEARNING HAS NO WALLS. 🔱

Two weekends. Two seminars. Two very different approaches to Jiu Jitsu.

Last weekend we headed to Swindon Grappling Academy for a No Gi seminar with DRAIG Head Coach Josh Williams and Gi Head Coach Jamie Dicks, working through mount, control, hand fighting and pressure.

This weekend six of the Trident team returned for a 2.5 hour Gi masterclass with black belt Rafael Borro, diving into Half Guard, pressure, control and submissions while hearing lessons from years of competing at World and European level.

A huge amount of knowledge shared across two weekends and plenty for us to take back to our own mats.

Thank you to Coach Jacob Sworder and everyone at Swindon Grappling Academy for putting both seminars together and welcoming us onto the mats.

Train hard at home. Learn everywhere. Bring it back to the room.

Our academy is home. Learning has no walls. 🔱

🥋 PROFESSOR COLIN NEWNHAM 🔱 FIRST DEGREE BLACK BELT 🟥⬛️

Some promotions mark progress.

Others represent years of consistency, knowledge, teaching and simply refusing to stop walking the path.

Last Thursday, Professor Colin Newnham was awarded his First Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Reaching black belt is an achievement very few people will ever understand. Continuing beyond it, still training, still learning and still giving that knowledge back to others, is something else entirely.

Colin has been part of this South West Jiu Jitsu community for many years and continues to pass that experience on as a coach at Wiltshire BJJ Academy in Calne.

His First Degree was recognised within the wider Valour Jiu Jitsu lineage of Master Lúcio “Lagarto” Rodrigues, whose principles and philosophy continue to influence Professor Pat Reeves and the direction of Trident.

That lineage matters.

But ultimately, a degree like this isn't about a piece of tape around a belt.

It's about the years represented by it.

The rounds.

The injuries.

The lessons.

The people helped along the way.

The knowledge passed down.

And after all of that…

still turning up.

A hugely deserved milestone for one of the old school.

Congratulations Professor Colin Newnham.

First Degree Black Belt. 🟥⬛️

THREE POINTS. ONE PURPOSE.

Kids class putting in the work tonight. 🔱

Breakfalls, trips, movement drills, repetition and plenty of graft from start to finish.

This is where good Jiu Jitsu starts. Learning how to move, how to fall, how to control your body and how to work with your teammates.

No shortcuts. Just solid fundamentals, confidence growing every session and a room full of young grapplers getting better together.

Proud of this little crew tonight. 🥋🔥
