Bat Detection Evening at St Illtyd's Church

This Monday evening, we were delighted to host a bat detection event in partnership with the Gower National Landscape team.

It was a truly special night, giving us fascinating insights into the bats that call St Illtyd's Church home, while also helping us understand their importance across Gower, the UK, and beyond.

Using specialist equipment provided by the Gower National Landscape team, we were able to hear and monitor Common Pipistrelle and Soprano Pipistrelle bats, as well as learn about the roosting Lesser Horseshoe bats living within the church.

Many church buildings across Gower provide important roosting sites for bats. As a result, local congregations are working alongside the Gower National Landscape team to help protect these remarkable and legally protected creatures, ensuring that both our built heritage and wildlife can flourish together.

The evening was filled with awe, wonder, and discovery, reminding us of the rich biodiversity that surrounds us, often hidden in plain sight.

We hope to run similar events in the future, helping people connect with the natural world, inspiring a deeper appreciation of our landscape, and encouraging practical ways to care for the wildlife with which we share it.

Thank you to the Gower National Landscape team for leading such an engaging and memorable evening.

📸 If you attended, we'd love to see your photos and hear about your favourite moment from the night!

🌿 How do you measure a year of farming for nature?

In its first year, the Welsh Government's Ffermio Bro scheme has supported 84 projects across 200 farms in Wales' National Parks and National Landscapes, helping to create, restore and enhance 🌿 hedgerows, 🌳 woodlands, 🐸 ponds, 💧 waterways and 🪨 drystone walls.

🌿 These projects are delivering practical benefits for wildlife, landscapes and local communities, while supporting farmers and land managers 🚜 to care for some of Wales' most special places.

📍 The report also showcases a range of individual projects, including Great Pitton Farm in Gower, where virtual fencing is helping to support conservation grazing 🐄 and habitat management 🌾 while improving livestock safety.

🌿 Sut ydych chi'n mesur blwyddyn o ffermio ar gyfer natur?

Yn ystod ei flwyddyn gyntaf, mae cynllun Ffermio Bro Llywodraeth Cymru wedi cefnogi 84 o brosiectau ar draws 200 o ffermydd ym Mharciau Cenedlaethol a Thirweddau Cenedlaethol Cymru, gan helpu i greu, adfer a gwella 🌿gwrychoedd, 🌳coetiroedd, 🐸 pyllau, 💧 dyfrffyrdd a 🪨 waliau sychion.

🌿 Mae'r prosiectau hyn yn cyflwyno manteision ymarferol ar gyfer bywyd gwyllt, tirweddau a chymunedau lleol, wrth gefnogi ffermwyr a rheolwyr tir 🚜 i ofalu am rai o leoedd mwyaf arbennig Cymru.

📍Mae'r adroddiad hefyd yn arddangos amrywiaeth o brosiectau unigol, gan gynnwys Ffermdy Great Pitton ym Mhenrhyn Gŵyr, lle mae ffensys rhithwir yn helpu i gefnogi pori er lles cadwraeth 🐄 a rheoli cynefinoedd🌾 wrth wella diogelwch da byw.
