FROM GORSEINON TO THE VERY TOP… AND BACK TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN 🏉

We were incredibly proud to host the retirement celebration of Leigh Halfpenny here at Gorseinon RFC — the club where his rugby journey first began in our junior section. He was awarded the Freedom of Gorseinon by Gorseinon Town Council and all his friends, family and club mates joined him in the occasion.

From those early days in a Gorseinon shirt to an incredible career representing Wales, the British & Irish Lions and some of the biggest clubs in the game, Leigh has achieved what so many of our young players can only dream of.

So it felt incredibly special that, as he closes the chapter on a stellar playing career, it was marked right here, in the place where it all started.

But perhaps what makes us proudest is that, despite everything he has achieved, Leigh has never forgotten where he came from and the people who have supported him since he laced up those boots for the first time.

He continues to support and inspire the next generation of young players here at Gorseinon RFC. To them, he is someone they look up to not only because of what he has achieved on the rugby field, but because of the person he is away from it — kind, patient, dedicated, thoughtful and always willing to give his time.

For a young player to see someone who once stood where they stand, went on to reach the very highest level of the game, and still comes back to encourage and support them is incredibly special. He shows them what is possible, while also showing them the kind of person you can be along the way.

And while his playing days may have come to an end, his contribution to Welsh rugby certainly hasn't, as he moves into the next chapter of his career — coaching, mentoring and supporting players with Cardiff and Wales.

Congratulations on an extraordinary playing career, Leigh. We couldn't be prouder of everything you've achieved, but even more importantly, of the man you are.

A big Happy Birthday to Ben Morris!

Not quite the birthday celebrations he had planned, as Ben is heading in for an operation on his wrist today! 🤕🔧

Everyone at Gorseinon RFC wishes you a very Happy Birthday and, more importantly, a successful op and speedy recovery. 💪

Hopefully it won’t be too long before we see you back out on the pitch!
