Rhos 2nds played their first official match of the season as they welcomed Godregraig Athletic AFC.

Godregraig started strongly and took advantage of a couple of mistakes at the back to race into a 2-0 lead.

Rhos didn’t let their heads drop and had chances to bring themselves level, with Callum Swain and Will Silsby both going close with big opportunities.

Godregraig punished Rhos for not taking those chances, going down the other end and adding a third to make it 3-0.

Once again though, Rhos responded. Callum Swain finally got the reward for the pressure, heading home at the back post following a great delivery from Tom Gibbons.

Then, just before half-time, a freak own goal from the Godregraig centre-back suddenly brought Rhos right back into the contest, sending the sides into the break at 3-2.

The second half was a much quieter affair compared to the first, with chances harder to come by at both ends.

With Rhos still searching for a way back into the game, Godregraig eventually found the only goal of the half in the 82nd minute, making it 4-2 and putting an end to any hopes of a late comeback.

It may not have been the start to the season Rhos 2nds wanted, but there were plenty of positives to take from the performance and plenty to build on.

Man of the Match went to Mike Dyer, who was a commanding presence at the heart of the defence, winning countless headers and putting in some strong tackles throughout.

A tough contest against a strong Glynneath Town Football Club side, with the visitors eventually showing their quality over the 90 minutes.

The game burst into life from the first whistle, with both teams pushing forward at a frantic tempo and creating early openings at either end.

As the first half wore on, Glynneath began to take control, settling into their rhythm and forcing Rhos to defend for long spells. Tom Jenkins was called upon to make some crucial saves, while Elliot Mills produced some excellent last-ditch defending to keep the visitors at bay.

Their pressure eventually told before the break, as Glynneath found the breakthrough to head into half-time with the advantage.

That lead was doubled early in the second half, and for a spell the away side dictated proceedings.

The game swung back towards Rhos on 57 minutes when a rash challenge from the Glynneath goalkeeper on Jacob Humphreys resulted in a red card.

Lifted by the extra man, Rhos responded with real purpose and pulled a goal back through Luke Brown, who finished well from a driven cross by Aron ‘Eclipse’ Jones.

For a moment, the comeback looked on. Glynneath, though, had other ideas, and two late goals put the contest beyond reach, sealing a 4-1 win for the visitors.

Rhos were second best on the day, but once again their effort and commitment could not be questioned.

Elliot Mills continued his excellent recent run of form, putting in another tireless display and deservedly picking up the Man of the Match award.

The ‘long ball’ specialists continued their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-earned point against the league’s top scorers, Ynysmeudwy Athletic AFC.

Rhos took an early lead after good work in the box from Richard Medwin forced a rushed clearance, which fell to Trystan Murphy on the edge of the area. Murphy calmly mis-hit his effort, looping it perfectly over the despairing keeper.

A red card and a sin bin followed for Ynysmeudwy, but Rhos failed to capitalise on the two-man advantage. In fact, it was the visitors who struck next, winning and converting a penalty to send the sides in level at half-time.

Rhos shrugged off the ‘long ball’ slur in the second half and, believe it or not, played out from the back. However, a deep cross from the opposition caught everyone out and Rhos suddenly found themselves 2-1 down.

Once again, the attitude and response from the boys were exceptional. Richard Medwin’s tireless work eventually paid off as he delivered a perfect cross for Joe Humphreys to guide the ball home and bring Rhos level.

Honours were even at the final whistle, keeping Rhos’ unbeaten start to the season intact. Elliot Mills deserves a notable mention for another excellent display, but Man of the Match went to Tommy Harrison, whose composure and quality on the ball were instrumental throughout.

Tonight, we hope to continue our unbeaten start to the season as we take on Glynneath Town Football Club at Parc Ynysderw.

Rhos maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-earned 1–1 draw against Skewen, combining resilience, discipline and team spirit in a demanding contest.
Liam “Bisto” Thomas gave Rhos the lead with a moment of individual quality, driving in from the left, beating three defenders and finishing calmly past the goalkeeper.
Clear chances were limited after that, but Rhos defended with real commitment and protected the advantage for long periods.
Skewen’s sustained pressure eventually told when a volley from the edge of the area brought them level.
It was another valuable point on the board, with the attitude, discipline and togetherness of the team again standing out.
Man of the Match went to Lewis “Figo” Smith, who put in a tireless display in the middle of the park, covering every inch of the yellow stuff that used to be grass.

Rhos 1sts opened the season with a statement 2-1 win over Bryncoch, overcoming one of the division’s early favourites following their impressive FAW Cup form.

Bryncoch dominated possession for long periods, but Rhos stayed compact, worked tirelessly out of possession and repeatedly forced the visitors into long-range efforts.
On 27 minutes, Rhos took the lead when a save from the Bryncoch keeper deflected the ball onto Lewis Smith’s head before ricocheting into the net, giving the home side a well-earned advantage at the break.

The second half continued in much the same vein until Rhos won a free kick on the edge of the box. Lewis Smith delivered a dangerous low ball into the area which deceived the keeper and bobbled in at the far post to double the lead.

From that point on, it was backs against the wall. Rhos defended bravely, stayed disciplined and managed the closing stages superbly before Bryncoch eventually grabbed a consolation in the 96th minute.

Man of the Match went to ‘Super’ Tom Jenkins, who was outstanding between the sticks, producing a number of crucial saves and commanding his area superbly throughout. But everyone involved deserves huge credit for a disciplined, gutsy and high-energy performance.

A massive three points and the perfect way to start the season. 💙💛

⚽️ End of Season 2025/26 – Rhos U7s ⚽️

What a fantastic season it's been for our U7s! The biggest highlight has been seeing so many smiles, watching the children grow in confidence, develop their football skills, and most importantly, enjoy every minute on the pitch.
We've got one more celebration to look forward to with our summer party before we officially make the move into the U8s. We can't wait for the next chapter and all the new challenges and memories it will bring.
