A first home game of the season for us yesterday.

We told the girls to forget about last week and that our season has to start for real this week. After another good week's training, we needed a reaction which we more than got.

The girls got off to a flyer and started like a train. Great pressure from Neive on the right forced a turnover in possession and her cross found Laycie, who sidestepped the 'keeper and slotted home to put us one up in the first minute. We contined to probe and press throughout the early stages with plenty of nearly moments, decent saves and woodwork denying us, we really could have been out of sight. A second eventually came, Rose's through ball finding Neive on the angle of the box and a great strike across goal nestled in the bottom corner.

We eased off in the remainder of the half but could/should have had another goal as Neive's effort from a corner looked to have been clawed back from well over the line but wasn't to be.

Half-time came and whilst we were full of praise for the girls we reminded them nothing was decided yet. We had to forget about decisions against us and make sure they count for nothing.

Second half was a more even affair but we fought gamely througout and defended heroically. We contined to threaten going forwards with Martha and Chloe going close whilst Maisie hit the post but a killer goal never came. A strong strike from distance got our opposition back in the game with less than 10 minutes to go and caused lots of nerves off the pitch but the girls saw the game out for a much deserved and needed win.

Superb performance overall and a real team effort. We made hard work of it at the end but got our just rewards eventually. All we'll ever ask of the girls is to be their best versions of themselves and this weekend we got it πŸ’ͺ🀍.

Tough choice for player of the match but we selected Neive. Neive was buzzing from minute one up front, a real nuisance for the opposition with her pace and pressing, fully deserved her goal contributions. Shoutouts for Imogen who was excellent throughout and really deserved a clean sheet as well as Isla, a real threat on the wing first-half, whilst her recovery pace at full-back in the second was monumental.

Fantastic to have a full squad to training this week as the season gets into full swing.

Good energy and contributions from all, we warmed up with a one touch passing/movement drill which took some grasping but we got there. Our main drill focused on attacking/defending overloads which was action-packed with all the girls determined to show their abilities with lots of progress on show.

Loads of candidates for player of the session but we went with Bella. A long day of football for her, she had every excuse to take the session easy but that was never an option. Picked up the intention and coaching points of the opening drill immediately whilst showing plenty of quality in all aspects of the game in the main drill. Another positive week for Annabelle too amongst many.

We opened season 2026/27 with an early start and away game today. Bright morning but a a blustery day which we didn't handle the best.

We started flatly but just about held our own for the opening 10 minutes before we were undone on the counter-attack with a strong strike from distance breaking the deadlock. We livened up afterwards with decent breaks down our right in particular causing some problems but we were still some way off our best levels.

Half-time came still well in the game but unknowingly we must have managed to learn to speak in another language over the summer as we started the second half as though we'd never met one another or a ball before 🫣🀦🏻. We quickly conceded another two before we regrouped and began to gain a foothold in the game.

From there we slowly put together some decent passing moves and a couple of positional tweaks gave us a timely reminder of what we are capable of. The last ten minutes were much better all round and a strong run through the middle from Poppy, saw the ball worked for Neive whose shot was well-saved but Bella reacted first and tucked home the rebound.

Another goal might have made it interesting but wasn't to be and on balance the score was unfortunately fair to the opposition.

Shoutout for our referee today, explained every decision and talked the girls through the game, one of the best we've ever had.

Our first player of the match award for the season was given to Eva. A tough day, her commitment never wavered as she fought for every ball and worked herself into the ground in three different positions.

Football is back, FOL's girls just need another week to join the party πŸ™. We know that we can be so much better and compete with anyone in this division, one game doesn't change that.

Our final session of pre-season this week. Almost a full squad and a pleasure to have most of the girls back at training.

We focused on fitness, speed and explosiveness for the most part before finishing with a larger and longer 6 a-side game. Despite being hyper, the girls were in good spirits and worked hard throughout. Some really pleasing football played in the match at the end too.

Annalise picked up player of the session. Strong effort in the fitness drills and was full of running and skill in the match at the end. Lots of strong effort across the group with Poppy in particular impressive.

Training this week for the final time of a long summer.

Quiet night but the girls able to attend switched on and focused from the beginning. We focused on sharpening our first touch in the main and then played football tennis for the first time. Difficult and different skillset required but the girls worked at it and concentrated. We finished with a shooting drill focused on different striking techniques.

Neive picked up player of the session. Tough drills but she didn't give up and showed some real development as the session progressed.

8 days to go before the big kick-off and the best time of the year!
