✍🏻 The Grange 3️⃣ – 5️⃣ The Flying Boat FC

A disappointing exit from the County Cup for The Grange yesterday, falling to a 5–3 defeat against a good Flying Boat side.

The first half was a pretty even contest, with both sides enjoying good spells of possession and creating opportunities.

Flying Boat took the lead somewhat against the run of play to make it 1–0, but The Grange responded well. A brilliant corner from Ian Whelan was met by Anthony Clifton, who produced a superb header to bring the lads level before the break.

🔁 Half-Time: 1️⃣ – 1️⃣

Unfortunately, the game got away from us immediately after the restart.

A crazy 10-minute spell saw The Grange concede four goals, the first coming just two minutes into the second half. At any level of football, giving a side that sort of advantage is always going to leave you with a mountain to climb.

Credit to the lads, though, because they refused to give up. The final 15 minutes saw us create some superb opportunities and, on another day, we could have taken the tie all the way to penalties.

Ian Whelan pulled one back from the penalty spot before Anthony Clifton grabbed his second of the game, finishing from a Slocombe cross.

Ultimately, the damage from that 10-minute spell proved too much to recover from and our County Cup campaign ends at the first hurdle.
