Flying Boat 5 - 3 The Grange | County Cup

We kicked off our County Cup campaign against last season’s Premier League side The Grange.

First Half: We started a touch nervy, but created the better chances early on — Catchy went close and rattled the bar with a free-kick! Then a moment of quality: Nathan Stavers picked out Ollie with an absolute peach of a diagonal ball, Ollie crossed it in perfectly, and Andy finished it cooly to make it 1-0. The Grange found an equaliser late in the half — 1-1 at the break.

Half-time: Straight talking — we knew we hadn't hit our standards yet.

Second half: We absolutely exploded out the blocks. Catchy turned provider, floating a beautiful ball to the back post where Stavers controlled it perfectly and volleyed it home — stunning finish! Then Catchy won the ball high up the pitch and played Andy through; this time Andy turned provider, sliding it through for Ollie to slot home — 3-1!

We weren't done. Wadey picked out Andy in the box with a sublime pass — easy finish, 4-1! Then Andy turned creator again, firing a ball across the box for Ollie to tap in his second — 5-1! 💥

A couple of lapses in concentration saw The Grange pull two back — including a penalty (that's Jaxon with 2 penalties conceded in 3 games — legend status confirmed 🙌🤣) — but the job was well and truly done.

Nervy start, but once we clicked? We looked like a proper side.

But all in all absolutely not good enough today and we demand better from the lads and they know that!

We welcomed an established Premier League side to downhill hub — and what a battle we had.

The first 15 minutes were shaky. Nerves got the better of us, a lapse in judgement let Fatfield in to take an early lead, and we had work to do.

But we didn’t fold. We grew into it fast and started playing our game. Some brilliant hold-up play from Andy on the edge of the box drew the foul — and Catchy stepped up to curl the free-kick into the bottom corner. 1-1.

We kept the pressure on. Wadey scrapped and battled to win the ball, it fell to Ollie 40 yards out — keeper stranded in no man’s land — and he volleyed it home. 2-1.

Fatfield grabbed an equaliser in the second half to set up a grandstand finish — but we had more in store. This time Catchy turned provider, delivering a perfect ball into the box that Ollie powered past their keeper with a thumping header. 3-2.

Every single one of the lads grafted their bo****ks off today, fought for every ball, and earned every inch of that win. Fully deserved, lads.

All the best to Fatfield — a cracking game played the right way.

Rhyope played like they were the main event on a UFC card for 90 minutes.
