A look back at Saturdays show as Wales crossed the border and returned home with two new belts thanks to W***y Gilheaney and Ben Crocker.

It was a night that showcased all that small hall boxing has to offer, with a good blend of debutants, emerging talent and more experienced pros.

The Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle was the setting for another night of scintillating action yesterday as Jobes UK’s Tyne and Glory more than delivered.

If ever you need an example of the sacrifice that boxers put their bodies through to achieve their goals, look no further than the two main events.

Cyrus Pattinson and W***y Gilheaney was one of the most brutal fights I’ve witnessed live in my time following the sport. Both warriors left everything in the ring but that swelling to Cyrus’ eye was too much in the end and it was the right decision to call it. Congrats to W***y on the win and all the best to Cyrus, who more than played his part.

Congratulations also to Ben Crocker, who will now likely go on to fight for the British title. That fight was really heating up, with Bobby seeming to recover from the knockdown but risks can’t be taken with ear injuries so the referees call was the right one. Hopefully the injury isn’t too serious and Bobby will absolutely come again.

There were victories for Josh Babb and Lee Rogers in two really enjoyable scraps, props to Erick Omar Lopez and Miguel Monroy for coming to fight.

Wins also for Josh Blenkiron, Joe Miller, Sophia Maycroft, Jack Scott, Owen Rees, debutant Jake Brown who looked really composed in his first professional outing and Nathan Cummisky who got the TKO victory inside a minute.

A mention also for Matt McCallum who was recognised by the BBBoC for his contribution to the sport, notably winning 3 Northern Area titles at 3 different weights. An historic achievement and great to see him pick up that special belt.

Time for some ☕️ now. More detailed reflections to follow but once again, congratulations to everyone involved last night. Where the quality of PPV’s is rightly under scrutiny, the small hall shows are more than stepping up.

A look ahead to another action-packed show from Jobes UK this weekend. Headlined by Bobby Dalton and Cyrus Pattinson, who fight for titles, the card also features Josh Babb, Lee Rogers, Joe Miller, Sophia Maycroft, Josh Blenkiron, Owen Rees, Nathan Cummisky, Jake Brown and Jack Scott.

Next weekend promises to be another great night of boxing up here in the North East with some cracking fights on the card.

The region is buzzing at the moment and it’s only a matter of time before more titles come back to the area

Hats off to Jobes for their investment into putting on big shows and good luck to all the fighters for next weekend.

Josh Kelly defeats Caoimhin Agyarko by unanimous decision to retain his IBF super welterweight champion. The judges scoring it 114-113 and 115-112 x2.

Some really bad cuts for Kelly though, who showed real grit to get through those later rounds. The one to the nose likely to keep him out for some time but a huge fight with Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis remains on the horizon.

Last week I had the pleasure of spending some time at Cleveland Boxing Club, watching Tom Corrigill put Olly Hockney through his paces ahead of his pro debut on Boss Boxing Promotions August 8 show at the Rainton Arena.

Afterwards I caught up with fighter and coach as we looked ahead to that debut, discussed the journey to this point and talked about future aspirations.

It was a memorable night in Eston this past weekend as Jade Pearce defeated Kirsty Hill by unanimous decision to become Commonwealth super featherweight champion.

It’s a title that has a lot of sentimental meaning for Jade, with father John having won a Commonwealth gold back in 1998.

Make no mistake though. On this showing, it’s the first title of many.

Elsewhere there were wins for Bobby Dalton, Aaron Bird and Sean Tyndall, while Sophia Maycroft, Kevin Richardson and Ben Jarvis all won on their professional debuts.

Middlesbrough has its first female professional boxing champion as Jade Pearce beats Kirsty Hill via unanimous decision to become the new commonwealth super featherweight champion.

100-90, 99-92 and 98-92 the judges scores.
