With the school summer holidays well underway, many juniors are taking the opportunity to develop their games and reduce their handicaps on a fast-running course that still presents a scoring challenge. Congratulations to Luke Cholerton, who won the July Stableford with 41pts a point ahead of Georgina Priestley.

An in-form Ciaran had also won the Atherstone Junior Open the previous day, taking both the overall title and his division. He was presented with the Paul Broadhurst Trophy by the former Ryder Cup player himself. Congratulations to both players on their superb performances last weekend.

Congratulations to Theo Clegg who plays off 4 handicap on winning the Junior Championship plus the Under 15 years title for the second successive year at Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club with a superb round of 76 gross. Ciaran Kilbride who joined the junior section this year was the worthy runner-up in both events playing off a 15 handicap with his excellent round of 85 gross.

Congratulations to Karen Parrott on winning last month's stableford with a briliant score of 41pts reflecting a six under handicap round and reducing her index down to 14.2.

Mandy Newey won both the Hart and Layton Trophies last week, securing the best gross and nett scores with rounds of 87 and 81. Her success would surely have pleased Eileen Hart and Ann Layton, who knew Mandy and her family well. It was an excellent 36-hole victory in soaring temperatures for Mandy, who has been in strong form this year and had been close to winning a trophy competition — but this time she claimed two on the same day!

Founded in 1894, shaped by five time Open Champion J.H. Taylor, and once captained by the founder of the Ryder Cup himself. ⛳🏆

Gayna Marcus celebrated her Ladies Captain’s Day in style, with 96 ladies enjoying sunshine and a warm welcome from herself and Julian on the first tee, complete with party sweetie bags. Prosecco Mojitos and canapés at the halfway house kept the fun going into the back nine!
The winners received a unique piece of Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club: a cheese board handcrafted from a tree felled on the course and branded with the club logo, creating a lasting keepsake and special association of their club membership.

Congratulations to Esme Blockley, who won the Dowdall Cup with 22 points. The annual trophy, presented at the past ladies’ captains event, was contested over nine holes because of the heatwave and followed by a commemorative dinner. Kay Garman was runner-up with 18 points, with Jill Focardi on 17 points. Wendy O’Halleran won the longest drive, and Kay Garman won nearest the pin on the 6th.

The Ladies’ Past Presidents Day was well attended and featured excellent scoring across all divisions on a windy, but gloriously sunny day. The ladies returned in their finery to enjoy time together and a celebratory drink with our much-valued Past Presidents. It was a delight to welcome Sheila Hansen, Gillian Gregg, Jenny Miremadi and Anne Priest, along with Joan Griffiths as Lady President and Gayna Marcus as Ladies' Captain. Generous prizes were presented to the three division winners: Julia New, Caroline Walley and Vanessa Ricketts, one of our young junior members.

The Past Captains welcomed Broadway to Stratford last month for the latest renewal of a fixture whose history stretches back to the late 1890s when the first match was played. With the clubs alternating home and away each year, it was Stratford’s turn to host — and home advantage proved decisive as the Past Captains secured an impressive 6½–1½ victory.
