Strabane Athletic FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Tommy Canning as our new First Team Manager.

Chairman Seamus McElroy welcomed Tommy to the club:

“Tommy has the experience we need and, having spoken to him on a number of occasions this week, it was clear that he is looking forward to the challenge of working with the players and helping us do well in this league.”

𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝:

“I’m very excited by the challenge ahead. I recognise that although the squad is good, there is hard work ahead and I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Everyone at Strabane Athletic FC would like to welcome Tommy to the club and wish him every success in the role.

𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐁 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 | 𝐌𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐇𝐎𝐍

Strabane Athletic can confirm that Mo Mahon has made the difficult decision to step down from his position as First Team Manager.

Following ongoing health issues and suffering a mini stroke, Mo has made the decision to step away from football to focus on what matters most - his health and his family.

Mo leaves the role after a memorable and historic period with Strabane Athletic. Together, we celebrated promotion to senior football and lifted the club’s first-ever North West Senior Cup — achievements and memories that will forever hold a special place in the history of our club.

𝐈𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬, 𝐌𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝:

“After a lot of thought, I have made the difficult decision to step away as manager of Strabane Athletic.

I am absolutely gutted to be leaving. I have loved everything about Strabane Athletic and want to thank the players, staff, committee, volunteers and supporters for making my time at the club so special.

A heartfelt thanks to Seamus and Junior - it was a pleasure working with you daily.

A special thanks to my family for their devoted support throughout my time in football.

Although I am stepping away from the manager’s role, I will always be there in the background when needed. I wish everyone connected with Strabane Athletic every success in the future.”

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐬 𝐌𝐜𝐄𝐥𝐫𝐨𝐲 also expressed his disappointment at Mo’s decision to step away but stressed that his health must come before any role in football.

“On behalf of the club committee, players and supporters, we thank Mo for everything he has given to Strabane Athletic during his time with us.

We are extremely disappointed to see him step away, but we fully understand and support his decision. His health and family are far more important than football.

Mo will always be welcome at Strabane Athletic, and we wish him every success and, most importantly, good health for the future.”

Everyone at Strabane Athletic would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Mo for his commitment, passion and dedication to the club.

The trophies and achievements will always be remembered, but so too will the work, relationships and memories created along the way.

For now, football takes a back seat.
