Jim O'Neill from Strabane, has opened up about the most challenging rescue he has ever faced, one which could have resulted in a major maritime tragedy.

One of Jim’s other heroic achievements was obtaining his brown belt in Shotokan karate in the 1980s 😊.
He was always destined for great things.

Strabane man Jim O'Neill has just been awarded the 2026 Billy Deacon Search and Rescue Memorial Trophy. The prestigious UK and Ireland accolade is for his bravery as a winchman and paramedic. Jim's actions helped save a crew of 14 from a beleagured fishing boat off the Kerry coast last December.

Jim has been talking to me at length about the whole remarkable episode. Today, midday on Foyle.

Tigers Class 🐯

We are pleased to confirm that our Tigers Class will continue to run throughout the month of July. This is our last month before our break.

At the end of July, on our last class, there will be a presentation for everyone who’s completed this years Tiger class - with a small gift & certificate. This will be on the evening of the 28th.

We look forward to welcoming all of our Tigers each week for engaging sessions in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment.
