Well we said there was a battle underway and thatβs exactly what there was, Athboy delivered a challenging but rewarding weekend for the team, with all three riders showing plenty of determination and fighting spirit across the races.
Zak - R1: P4 | R2: P4 | R3: P3 | Best Lap: 51.41
Zak arrived at Athboy determined to put himself firmly into the Junior Elite title fight, and the weekend got off to a promising start with strong pace in practice and qualifying.
Unfortunately, Race 1 brought brake issues that affected Zak's confidence in the bike. Despite the setback, he battled through to secure a solid P4.
The same problems continued into Race 2, once again making things difficult, but Zak dug deep to bring home another P4.
By Race 3, improvements to the brakes gave Zak back some much needed confidence. With his pace returning, he launched into a hard-fought battle for the podium finish and refused to let the opportunity slip. Zak crossed the line in P3 , securing a well-deserved podium and valuable championship points.
A tough weekend, but Zak's determination never wavered and with the brake issues resolved, the Junior Elite title fight is very much alive! π₯
Harry R1: P2 | R2: P5 | R3: P2 | New Personal Best Lap: 53.70
Harry arrived at Athboy full of confidence and looking to extend his points advantage.
Race 1 couldn't have gone much better, with Harry powering his way to an impressive P2.
Race 2, however, brought a completely different challenge. The Boss-E Bambam stopped and refused to restart, leaving Harry stranded while the rest of the field pulled away.
Once the bike finally fired back into life, Harry went straight into recovery mode. He pushed lap after lap, hunting down the riders ahead and clawing his way back through the field. Despite the huge disadvantage, Harry fought all the way to the chequered flag to finish an incredible P5.
What stood out just as much as the result was Harry's attitude afterwards. Rather than dwelling on what could have been, he showed fantastic professionalism and maturity, focusing on the positives and the effort he had put in rather than reflecting on what could have been had things not went wrong. He finished the weekend back on the podium with a brilliant P2 π₯ in Race 3, leaving with a new PB and still in the fight for the championship.
Katie R1: P7 | R2: P9 | R3: P8 | New Personal Best Lap: 1:00.9
Katie also faced a challenging weekend at Athboy, working hard to master the circuit and improve her gear changes while battling hard throughout the races.
Race 1 provided one of the closest finishes of the weekend. Katie found herself locked in a battle for P6, constantly applying pressure to the rider ahead.
She searched for an opportunity but recognised when a move wasn't there, showing excellent race craft and refusing to make a reckless attempt.
Instead, she kept the pressure on right until the chequered flag. When the race was over, just 0.059 seconds separated Katie from P6.
That tiny margin says everything about the fight she showed she would never give up and pushed right to the very end and for a girl who hasnβt been on her bike since the last outing to leave with a new PB is a brilliant achievement in itself! Way to go Little Boss! π©·
Athboy certainly tested the team, but it also showed the determination and character of all three riders.
Zak battled through brake issues to secure a podium and keep his Junior Elite title hopes alive.
Harry overcame a mechanical nightmare to recover to P5 before returning to the podium in Race 3 and keeping the fight alive for his Bambam championship challenge.
Katie fought until the very last lap, finishing just 0.059 seconds away from P6 and achieving a new PB for this circuit!
If Athboy has shown us anything, it's that this championship battle is far from over! π₯ well done to the two current championship leaders on their successful weekend, excellent racing!
