Kidsgrove Athletic Lionesses Gold Start the Season with a Hard-Fought Battle

Kidsgrove Athletic Lionesses Gold got their season underway with a well-fought battle against Wyrley Pandas.

The girls made a fantastic start, with an early goal giving them confidence and settling them into the game. Their football was excellent, with some great passing, impressive breaks down the wings and plenty of chances created in front of goal.

Wyrley fought back strongly and managed to turn the game around, going 2–1 up before half-time.

Kidsgrove came out fighting in the second half and grabbed an early equaliser, setting the tone for an exciting final 20 minutes. The game went from end to end, with both teams creating plenty of chances.

Unfortunately, with no substitutes available and tired legs beginning to show, the girls were unable to hold on and secure a point.

Despite the result, the scoreline certainly didn’t reflect the performance. Every player gave 100% and showed true determination right through to the final whistle.

It’s only Game 1, and there is plenty to be positive about. The girls will bounce back next week, ready for the next challenge! ⚽️⚽️⚽️

What a way to start a new season!!!

With an outstanding performance and 100% effort from everyone they got the win they deserve. All the pre season games competing a year up. two in some cases. Have clearly prepared the girls for the challenge ahead. Its help build there confidence, resilience and team work.

Well done girls. We look onwards to the next game. 💪🏻

Kidsgrove Athletic Lionesses Gold: Pre-Season Comes to an End

The summer training programme has finally come to an end for Kidsgrove Athletic Lionesses Gold, and what a summer it has been!

The girls have trained hard twice a week throughout the summer, putting in plenty of effort, commitment and determination as they prepare for the new season ahead.

As many of you know, the team made the move from Milton to Kidsgrove Athletic over the summer. With that change came some player departures as well as some new faces joining the squad. The girls have taken everything in their stride, adapted brilliantly and continued to work hard together as a team.

Last week, the girls took part in a 5-a-side tournament, where the squad was split into two teams. Both teams put in fantastic performances, finishing in a very well-deserved 2nd and 3rd place. It was a great reward for all the hard work the girls have put into their consistent summer training, and their commitment has been incredible.

This morning saw the final pre-season friendly against Alsager, with the team having just nine players available and no substitutes. Despite that, the girls gave absolutely everything from the first whistle to the last.

There was non-stop running, excellent passing and movement, and plenty of determination throughout the game. The coaches’ fitness training is clearly paying off, with the girls showing that they have the fitness to keep going right until the end.

A few missed chances were really the only thing that separated the two sides. After going 1–0 down in the first half, the girls dug deep and came out fighting in the second. They battled hard, gave everything they had and managed to keep the scoreline at 1–0.

It was an absolutely fantastic display from start to finish, and the perfect way to finish our pre-season. The girls have shown that they are more than ready for the challenge of the 2026/27 season.

With so many fantastic performances today, any one of the players could have taken Player of the Game. However, we had to choose, so a huge well done to Lucy, Genna and Charlotte, who all played different positions and showed fantastic determination and commitment to get the job done.

Well done, girls! You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.

The hard work continues, but after a fantastic summer of training and a brilliant pre-season, we can confidently say:
