What a season it has been for Stockton Cricket Clubâs 3rd XI.
The 2026 season will go down as a special one, with the 3rds crowned NYSD Sunday Conference North champions after an outstanding campaign of 13 wins from 18 matches and just one defeat.
Those numbers tell a great story, but theyâre only part of what makes this achievement so special.
Three years ago, the aim was to build something for the future. To give promising junior players the opportunity to step into senior cricket, playing alongside experienced senior players who could provide the guidance, knowledge and leadership to help them develop.
It was always going to take time.
Over those three years, weâve watched young players make the step up, learn the demands of senior cricket, grow in confidence and continue to improve.
This season, we saw the rewards.
Players who were once promising juniors are now established and pivotal members of the team. Theyâve taken responsibility, performed under pressure and shown they belong at this level and above.
Perhaps most importantly, some are now becoming the experienced players that the next generation can look up to. The cycle continues, with young players coming through, experienced heads passing on their knowledge and everyone contributing to the development of the team.
A season to remember.
Winning 13 of 18 matches is an incredible achievement and testament to the consistency, attitude and commitment shown throughout the season.
Things didnât always go to plan, but there was always somebody ready to step up. Runs when they were needed, important wickets, sharp work in the field and crucial contributions throughout the side.
Thatâs what this team has been about.
No individual wins a league title alone. This success has come from everyone pulling in the same direction and understanding that every contribution matters.
Next season brings a new challenge in the NYSD Premier Division. There will undoubtedly be tougher tests ahead, but thatâs exactly what makes promotion exciting.
For now, though, the 3rds can enjoy being 2026 champions. đ
